Introduction
Hello Comrades! My name is Simon and this is my first guide. I have made a guide about Amumu because he is my all time favorite champion, but of course I am not going to bore you with ME because this is about YOUR game with Amumu and how to stomp some scrubs. This guide will teach you how to play AP Offtank Amumu so good that it will even make your enemies cry. I appreciate all comments and feedback. Thanks everyone for reading and enjoy, my Amumu jungle guide. Please note that this is a work in progress.
Amumu is GODAmumu is a Melee AP Caster Tank equipped with godlike initiation tools and sustained AOE magic damage that melts tanks like butter. Amumu is a very versatile champion, able to fulfill the role anywhere between the traditional tank, acting as a barrier for your team, to a high burst AP AOE assassin taking down groups of unsuspecting enemies. But now the question is, how do we play Amumu? There is no one way to play any champion, but I believe this playstyle allows Amumu to consistently be a top tier jungler, especially in lower elo where people do not know how to abuse Amumu's weak early game. |
Cursed Touch Reduces enemy's magic resist with each basic attack.
Nobody pays attention to Amumu's passive, but it makes targets very vulnerable to magic damage. Sometimes it is worth to attack an enemy instead of running away to turn the fight in your teams favor.
Bandage Toss A skill shot nuke that deals flat magic damage, stuns, and pulls Amumu to the first target hit.
Bandage Toss is Amumus main gank tool early on. It becomes very useful late game and can be used as an initiation, an escape, for chasing, and for peeling. Bandage Toss should be maxed second, but if you are ganking a lot, you should max it first.
Despair A toggle ability dealing AOE magic damage around Amumu based on the enemies maximum health.
Despair should be maxed last since it deals damage based on your opponents maximum health, meaning that it will do overall more damage late game. Taking 1 point in Despair early game improves your clear times.
Tantrum An activated ability that deals damage to all surrounding enemies and passively reduces the physical damage dealt to Amumu. Whenever Amumu is hit by an auto attack, the cooldown of Tantrum is reduced by 0.5 seconds.
Tantrum is why Amumu is such a strong jungler. Tantrum is Amumu's best way of clearing jungle camps, because not only does it have nice AOE damage, its cooldown is reduced every time you are hit with a basic attack including jungle creatures, making it VERY spammable for clearing jungle camps. In addition, Tantrum's passive gives Amumu physical damage reduction allowing him to clear the jungle healthier. For fast, and sustained jungle clear Tantrum is the ideal ability to max first.
Curse of the Sad Mummy Upon activation, all enemies near Amumu become rooted and are dealt magic damage.
Curse of the Sad Mummy is one of the most incredible ultimates in the game. It has an 80% AP ratio and it roots everyone in a range of 550 for 2 seconds. With this ability Amumu becomes a menace in team fights. Do no hesitate to use this to secure kills but when you are grouping as a team, it is ideal you hit as many of them as possible.
For a more passive Amumu who focus's on farming more, max > > >
It should look something like this:For a more aggressive Amumu who aims at ganking more, max > > >

It should look something like this:
+ Good initiation with Bandage Toss + Curse of the Sad Mummy + Great early ganks with Bandage Toss + Destroys tanks with Despair + Cursed Touch + Fast and Healthy jungle clear with Tantrum + Outstanding AP scaling + Becomes incredibly tanky |
- Blue buff dependent early game - Item dependent - Terrible duelist - Ganks are useless when Bandage Toss is missed - Melee champion - Can get shut down hard early game |
Utility tree gives us some movement speed and extra buff duration. In the Defense tree, we use 21 points for extra durability, increasing out Armor and Magic Resist. Alternatives include 9/21/0 and 21/9/0. You can use 9/21/0 for more AP giving us bonus damage. Using 21/9/0 Is for going aggressive Amumu. This is good for building him with more AP items like Zhonya's Hourglass and Void Staff. But for this build we are taking 21 in the defense tree to maximize our tanking ability.
Seals of Armor are universally good seals. The Armor helps reduce damage taken in the jungle.
Marks of Magic Penetration compliment Amumu's powerful base magic damage, improving Amumu's jungle clear further.
Glyph's of Scaling Magic Resistance We already have some Armor with our seals, and Magic Resistance does not help in the jungle so scaling helps late game where we will need it most.
Quintessences of Movement Speed Help avoiding enemy invades, make our ganks more effective, and allow us to stay with our enemies while they stand in our tears, especially when we get Rylai's Crystal Scepter.
[Under Construction]
Flash and Smite are no doubt in my mind, the best. Smite is a must take for all junglers to secure important objectives such as Baron Nashor, Dragon and neutral buffs, it is also very helpful clearing the jungle in the early stages of the game. Flash is very strong for re-positioning and for making quick escapes. The only real alternative is Ghost. Ghost can be strong in some situations, but in most cases Amumu benefits more from a quick re-position to land a perfect Curse of the Sad Mummy. Flash suits him better to combo along with his other abilities or to escape period.

Teamfights are a very important part of League of Legends that decide the outcome of almost all games. Many people do not know how to "teamfight", they do not understand their role in the fight, they do not understand when to engage or disengage, and they do not have knowledge of other champions. In a teamfight Amumu always engages, and he excels at it, so we have to push his potential to the limit. Even though Amumu's early game may be a struggle, if he makes it to late game his power is unmatched through raw defense and the AOE powerhouse, Curse of the Sad Mummy.
