Introduction

Tired of overextending and feeding ADCs? Tired of being stuck at support but unable to fulfill your job? Tired of seeing your carries killed by assassins? Tired of 4 v 5? Then you have come to the right place. On lower elos, most of the time ADCs don't know what they are doing, they often forget to check mini-map and they over extend without wards. Sometimes they get too excited on killing creeps and trading to such extent that they don't see the enemy Master yi coming for them. So ADCs are pretty much like babies. They can't multi task well, they have zero environmental awareness and they do ******ed stuffs without knowing the consequences. Fear not!!!! The Taric is here. He is the best baby sitter you can find in the lol roster. He can tank, heal, shield, stun and above all he can make them fkin invulnerable for few seconds which is more than enough for them to run the **** out of the place. This guide is written focusing only on saving our carries and be an annoying piece of **** for the enemy team.

Pros/Cons

Pros

+ Tanky as ****
+ Heals, Shields and Invulnerability
+ Can stun multiple people at once
+ Jinx will call u 'Daddy'
Taric has all the kit he needs to be the best babysitter. He is very good against poke comps as he can negate some of the damage by providing shields and healing whenever he can. His W passive provides extra armor which makes him more tanky. Stuns can be land while moving which is another cool thing.

Cons

- Less amount of damage
- Invulnerability takes 2.5 seconds to activate
- Rework changed 'point-click' stun to skillshot
- People will call u 'Gay'
If u fail to protect ur carry, it is gg. Because u deal very less damage and u need to rely on others to win the game.

Runes

Marks
Greater Mark of Armor Remember again...... We are the babysitters here. We don't do damage. Then why buying AD marks? Throw that and put on proud armor marks.
Seals
Greater Seal of Armor Do I need to tell the importance of armor again?
Quints
Greater Quintessence of Armor Awww yisss...... more armor!!!
Glyph
Greater Glyph of Magic Resist Early MR is needed against ability power supports (Say Brand, Annie, Zyra, Karma) and also good against mixed damage ADCs like Kog'maw and Corki.

Masteries

UTILITY TREE

Unyielding - Bonus armor is always sweet

Tough skin - Helps us in laning by negating some damage received

Runic armor - Good synergy with Starlight's Touch

Perseverance - We need high health regen to make enemy's poke useless

Legendary Guardian - You are a douchebag if you reject free armor on Taric

Bond of stone - Some say that the Courage of the Colossus is better than Bond of Stone . But Bond of Stone redirects 6% of the damage taken by ur ally to you. Combined with another 12% redirect from Knight's Vow, we can take 18% of the damage taken by the adc which will let them do damage for a longer time and thus increasing the probabilities for winning.

space
DEFENSE TREE

Wanderer - Helpful for roaming and moving around map

Secret stash - Comparing other two masteries, this one seems pretty useful

Meditation - More mana --> more shields and heals

Bandit - You get free gold if you harass enemies

Summoner spells

Flash
Flash is a must on Taric because it provides good escape, jump over walls and dodging CCs. It can also be used to do an "unexpected" Flash + E combo which will be discussed later.

Exhaust
Exhaust provides too much utility in a single spell. It reduces movement speed, attack speed, armor, magic resist and their damage dealt. There is literally no reason for not taking this summoner spell on Taric.

Ignite
Ignite is very good against high heal supports, reduces life steal on champions and reduces the effects of summoner heal. Ignite is situational and not compulsory. Do you steal chocolate from baby's hand and eat it? No, right? Likewise you shouldn't pick ignite to kill steal.

Heal
Increases health by a noticeable amount which can possibly turn fights around. But since most of the ADCs pick heal, we shall go with exhaust or ignite.

Ghost
It can increase your movement speed which helps in chasing enemies. But I prefer flash over ghost.

Smite
Don't take this spell unless you are trying to be a support/second jungler. I haven't tried Taric as a second jungler but if you have tried and it came out successful, let others know.

Teleport
Not recommended on support Taric. There are other spells which are more useful than this.

Barrier
We are already fairly tanky and we have a spammable shield. So I guess we shall save the summoner spell for something more valuable.

Cleanse
Don't pick this unless you are playing Taric midlane against Faker

We max Bastion first because of its excellent babysitting capacity. Taking Dazzle or Bastion at level 1 depends on your preference between stuns or shields. Upgrade Cosmic Radiance whenever possible. Maxing Bastion provides bonus armor for you and to your ally whoever is bonded by it. Bastion has great synergy with Knight's Vow and hence it is strongly recommended to max Bastion and rush Knight's Vow as soon as possible. Max Dazzle second for its increased stun time and damage. Max Starlight's Touch at last because the heal is not really op and I personally find maxing other abilities provide more utility.

Skill explanation

Bravado After casting a spell, increases attack speed and damage for the next two basic attacks. Bravado is Taric's passive. After casting a spell, the next two auto attacks will have 100% attack speed. Bonus damage is based on level and a percent of armor. These empowered basic attacks will reduce the cooldown of other spells. Hence it is very important to use those two auto attacks in between spells to maximize damage output.

Starlight's touch Heals you and the targeted ally based on the number of charges stored. Heal is based upon bonus health, ability power and the charges stored. Charges are stored periodically. Healing uses all of the charges. Bravado decreases charge regen time.

Bastion Passive provides bonus armour and active provides shield to you and to the targeted ally. Shielding amount depends upon Taric's maximum health. At max level, Taric has 20% bonus armour and if your ally is targeted with it, he/she gains 20% of your armor. With this ability, you can make your adc a semi tank. Bastion can also replicates all of your abilities to the targeted ally too.

Dazzle A short ranged skillshot that stuns all enemies within its range after 1 second delay. Maximum stun duration is 1.5 seconds. Damage of this ability is based on armor and ability power. That is why it is recommended to stack a lot of armor on Taric. Both his W and E scales by armor. Dazzle can be deployed while moving. So pressing E and flashing towards enemies at the end of the dazzle animation can result in catching enemies off-guard.

Cosmic radiance After 2.5 seconds upon activation, ally champions become invincible for 2.5 seconds duration. A good Cosmic Radiance can end the game. With right coordination, you can make your entire team invincible. If enemy burst champs unleash their combo during this period, they deal 0 damage and they have to wait for cooldowns. This window will provide your team upper hand to wipe them all out. Activate it just before diving into the enemy team. In case you need to keep your carries alive during that initial 2.5 seconds, spam your shields and heals.

Item description

face of the mountain
Face of the Mountain
Provides bonus gold, health, increased regen, cdr and a shield. A good item on every tank support.

Ruby Sightstone
Don't play support if you are not going to buy wards. Vision is the key to everything. More intel you obtain, more u can plan ahead and execute. You can forge sightstone into Eye of the Equinox if u don't want the shield from Face of the Mountain.

Knight's Vow
This item is made for Taric. Every single aspect of this item has excellent synergy with Taric's kit. It provides health, increased regen and armor. It also provides bonus armor whenever your linked ally is nearby. You also take 12% of the damage taken by them as true damage (18% if you count another 6% from Bond of Stone mastery). Hence stacking health is good on Taric. This item works similar like your Bastion. Put both your Bastion and Knight's Vow bond on a single ally for increased effectiveness. You take some of the damage + you become more tanky just by standing near them. Make sure to switch priorities during teamfights. If your adc just sucks, then change those bonds to someone who is more worthy. Put them on full damage toplaner and watch him go ham on enemy team meanwhile u spam shields and heals to keep him alive.

Redemption
Nice aoe heal and damage. The only item that can be casted while being dead. It also boosts Starlight's Touch and Bastion. But since it has no armor, we can't make anyone tanky by buying this item. Go for this, if you gonna max Starlight's Touch first and play like a melee Soraka.

Frozen Heart
My favorite armor item on Taric. 90 armor from this item can significantly boosts your tankiness and of your ally's. It also provides mana and cdr which is helpful in spamming abilities. This item reduces attack speed of nearby enemies which is a nice counter to attack speed based champions, say Jax, Xin Zhao, Jinx, Twitch.

Iceborn Gauntlet
This item doesn't make Taric a babysitter. Buy this item if you feel like you should do more damage. Since Bravado can reduce cooldown of abilities. You can proc Sheen more often. It also slows enemies which is helpful in landing stuns.

Randuin's Omen
Only recommended against hyper crit carries like Vayne, Yasuo, Sivir, Tryndamere. Don't buy this item unless they are super fed. Most of the time going with Frozen Heart can provide enough tankiness to peel for your carries.

Thornmail
This is a pure armor item. It can reflect some of the damage taken. But a good adc will itemize against thornmail. Last Whisper + Bloodthirster and/or Death's Dance are more than enough to make it useless. I strongly recommend Randuin's Omen or Frozen Heart over this item. Buy Thornmail only if you see a Kog'Maw.

Dead Man's Plate
Provides health, armor, movement speed, increased damage and slow on first basic attack. Good for chasing enemies and slowing them.

Sunfire Cape
Build this if you are going for tanky/damage support. Combined with Iceborn Gauntlet and Dead Man's Plate you can deal more damage than 'Babysitting' build.

Spirit Visage
Makes him super tanky against AP champs. Spirit Visage increases heal from Starlight's Touch. Buying Face of the Mountain, Knight's Vow, Spirit Visage increase your base health regen by 400%. You can regenerate all of your health in no time.

Banshee's Veil
Buy this item only if the enemy team is full AP or they have any crazy cc like Rocket Grab, Death Sentence, Dredge Line, Bandage Toss. Since we are tanky, we are not going to be instadeleted in a second anyway. So we buy this item mostly for its passive.

Locket of the Iron Solari
I used to love this item but they removed the bonus magic resist to nearby allies. Buy this if you need both armor and magic resist. It can also provide shields for allies.

Zz'Rot Portal
One of the best utility item on Taric. It provides both armor and magic resist. But most of all, it is very helpful in pushing lanes. Put this on top lane or bot lane and group mid. If enemy team sends someone to counterpush that lane, force teamfight or take towers/inhibitors.

Guardian Angel
If you play Taric correctly, you will never die. So this item is pretty much useless. Buy this if you are dying a lot or if u have to dive deep into enemy line to distract them.

Ninja Tabi
Provides movement speed and good tank stats. Preferable on AD heavy comp.

Mercury's Treads
Provides movement speed, magic resist and reduces the duration of CCs on you. Buy this if the enemy team has lot of slows and AP champs.

Boots of Swiftness
Buy this if you are going to roam a lot. It can also reduce slowing effects on you.

Boots of Mobility
This item provides more movement speed than Boots of Swiftness. However the bonus movement speed is lost once you enter combat.

Ionian Boots of Lucidity
Buy this if you need that early cdr for spamming more abilties. But if you follow the recommended build, you can reach 40% cdr without buying Ionian Boots of Lucidity.
