Introduction

Hey!
In this guide i want to show you how powerful Varus can be.
So let's start the guide!
Varus
Please give me your thumbs up if you like & use this guide.

Varus is ranged AD Carry. His main ability is Q - Piercing Arrow. It's an arrow with big damage. Someone can call it new Piltover Peacemaker but it's not. It's better.

Pros / Cons

So, Varus as AD Carry has his Pros & Cons here they are:

space Pros:
+ AD carry with some CC
+ Epic harras with Q/E
+ Good passive for last hitting
+ Ranged AD Carry of course :)
nothing



nothing Cons:
- No escape mechanism
- Need farm to be useful in late game
- Very squishy
- Hard to aim skillshots (especially "Q")

Masteries

Explanation of Masteries:
OFFENSE:
Brute Force : For extra damage in early game. 3 points of this Mastery equals 2 AD Quints. Last hitting will be easier. If you decide to start with Boots and 3 Health Potion it's the best choice for you.
Butcher : Taking this Mastery will help you with last hitting on lane. If you have troubles with last hitting, give here 2 points.
Alacrity : Gives you extra damage & easier last hits.
Weapon Expertise : Armor penetration is good against enemy AD carry. If you are getting this mastery, you can get Greater Mark of Attack Damage then Greater Mark of Desolation.
Deadliness : +9 AD at 18lvl
Lethality : If you have bigger chance to critical hit, you'll deal more damage, am i right?
Vampirism : Must have mastery, especially if you start with Boots over Doran's Blade. Life steal is very important as AD carry.
Sunder : Gives you more Armor Penetration, which is always useful, especially when we only have Last Whisper for Armor Penetration.
Executioner : Gives Piercing Arrow tons of damage.

DEFENSE:
Summoner's Resolve : Bigger Heal.
Hardiness : Gives you 6 Armor. With Greater Seal of Armor enemy AD carry shouldn't be hurting you too much.
Durability : 108 health at 18lvl.
Veteran's Scars : +30 health. Combined with Durability gives you 138 health at 18lvl.

Why this runes?
Greater Mark of Desolation gives you Armor Penetration, which dramatically increases your damage in game.
Greater Seal of Armor gives you Armor. Armor reduces damage, which goes to you and is highly recommended against enemy AD carry.
Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist gives you Magic Resist per lvl, which gives you more survivability against enemy AP carry.

Summoner Spells

Optimal Summoner Spells:
It's the best spell for Varus. Gives you more survivability, combined with Flash gives you awesome escape mechanism.

Generally it's a good spell, but take it only, when you don't have support or your support takes Clairvoyance. You need Exhaust on bottom lane.

Grab this summoner spell only, when enemy bottom lane has a lot of CC like Blitzcrank or Alistar

Flash can be used to chase and escape. Must have spell for Varus, since Varus doesn't have escape skills.



Neutral Summoner Spells:
Teleport is a specific spell. It's useful with Varus because you can teleport to Sight Ward or turret, in early game can be useful to protect turret, or to steal dragon. However, i think Heal is better for Varus

If you don't have Flash available yet, you should grab this summoner spell. It's the best skill for chasing enemy Summoner, but we have better spells for Varus.

Ignite is very effecitive vs. champions with heal abilities like: Dr. Mundo Sion Volibear. Take it only, when enemy team has these champs.

Ability Explanation

Living Vengeance (passive):
"On champion kill or assist, Varus gains 40% attack speed for 6 seconds. On minion kill, Varus gains 20% attack speed for 3 seconds."
Passive, which increases AS on kill. Great!



Piercing Arrow: (Q)
"Varus starts drawing back his next shot, gradually increasing its range and damage, then he fires it, dealing minimum 10 / 43 / 77 / 110 / 143 (+1.0 per attack damage) to maximum 15 / 65 / 115 / 165 / 215 (+1.6 per attack damage) physical damage, reduced by 15% per enemy hit (minimum 33%).

While preparing to shoot, Varus cannot autoattack or use abilities, and his movement speed is slowed by 20%. After 4 seconds, Piercing Arrow fails but refunds half its mana cost. "

This ability is your skillshot. It have very big range. Learn to master it. It's your main skill vs. big range AD carries. Don't max it first, when enemy ad carry has lower range then you, "E" is better against them. Max "Q" only if you are with Soraka, or you have Caitlyn or Urgot on your lane.
TIP: Try to steal enemy's Dragon with Piercing Arrow.



Blighted Quiver: (W)
"Varus' basic attacks deal bonus 10 / 14 / 18 / 22 / 26 (+0.25 per ability power) magic damage and apply Blight for 6 seconds (stacks 3 times).
Varus' other abilities detonate Blight, dealing magic damage equal to 2 / 2.75 / 3.5 / 4.25 / 5% (+0.01% per ability power) of the target's maximum health per stack.

This damage is capped against monsters."

It's Varus passive. Take 1 point at 2nd level and max it last. If you max it first, you'll have much more dmg on each shot.
TIP: It stacks up to 3 times, then use Piercing Arrow Hail of Arrows, or Chain of Corruption to detonate.



Hail of Arrows: (E)
"Varus fires a hail of arrows that deal 65 / 105 / 145 / 185 / 225 (+0.6 per bonus attack damage) physical damage and desecrate the ground. Desecrated ground slows enemies' Movement Speed by 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 / 45% and reduces their healing and regeneration by 50%."

It's your best skill against lower range AD Carry like Ashe. If enemy AD carry is in range, use it, then shoot as much as you can. Well combined with Piercing Arrow and Chain of Corruption will give you easy kill.
TIP: Using Hail of Arrows against Sion ultimate - Cannibalism will reduce his Life Steal by 40% for 3 seconds. Remember that fact.



Chain of Corruption: (R)
"Varus flings out a tendril of corruption that deals 150 / 250 / 350 (+1.0 per ability power) magic damage and immobilizes the first enemy champion hit for 2 seconds.
The corruption then spreads towards nearby uninfected enemy champions, applying the same damage and immobilize if it reaches them. The corruption will continue to spread until there are no further unaffected targets in range."

There are 2 options to use this ultimate.
A:
When you are in teamfight use it, focusing enemy AP/AD carry. If you time it correctly, you'll win teamfights.
B:
When you are on bottom lane with your support, the best results of Chain of Corruption are with Sona Crescendo or Nunu & Willump Absolute Zero. Try this!

Explanation of items

Starting items:

It's a passive start. I recommend it for new Varus players. Doran's Blade helps you with last hitting, and gives you more survivability. Buy 2 Doran's Blade to get easier lane.





It's a more agressive start. Allows you to harass enemy AD carry, and stay longer on lane, but it's recommended for skilled players.



Core items:



Berserker's Greaves are the most common boots for AD Carry. They'll give you easier last hitting. Even if you die by mage buy them.



Infinity Edge is your main damage item. Buy it only once, because passive doesn't stack.



Phantom Dancer is your main Attack Speed and Critical Chance item. Must have for Varus, as well as the other AD Carries.



Bloodthirster is your main late game item. Gives you life steal and damage (up to 100dmg!). If fed buy 2.




Situational items:




Last Whisper is weapon against enemy's tanks. Gives you a lot of Armor Penetration and some Attack Damage. Generally, i highly recommend this item as playing Varus




Guardian Angel gives you 2nd life in teamfights. It's awesome item, when team knows, that you are the most valuable player. If your team won't protect you after revive, you'll die as soon as enemy team can kill you.



Banshee's Veil gives you some Health, Mana, Magic Resist. The best thing in Banshee's Veil is blocade of one spell. Very useful against high burst enemy AP Carries like: Karthus ultimate - Requiem or LeBlanc



Black Cleaver gives you some Attack Speed, Attack Damage and great passive: Reduce of target's Armor by 15 for 5 seconds which equals 45 Armor Penetration in 3 hits for 5 second. Sounds nice and works for teamnates..



Frozen Mallet is an item, which increases your health bar and slows your enemy. Well combined with Hail of Arrows gives great effects.




Madred's Bloodrazor fits perfectly against high health tanks. Building Madred's Razors at early game HELP A LOT with last hitting. Recommended for weak players.




Quicksilver Sash is recommended, when enemy team has a lot of long duration CC, like: Sona's ultimate Crescendo, Skarners's ultimate Impale or Amumu



Warmog's Armom just gives you a lot of hp and some Health Regeneration. I recommend it when you have too much gold to spend, and enemy team sometimes kill you.



Ionic Spark is my favorite item in League of Legends. It gives you some health and big Attack Speed. Also passive is great to farming, and cleaning lane from minions.



Well, Guinsoo's Rageblade is very specific item, but in 1 situation it fits perfectly. Here it is: You are fed, and enemy team bought a lot of armor. Blighted Quiver is passive with magic damage. When they have a lot of armor, surprise them and buy Guinsoo's Rageblade



Trinity Force buying has very similar reason as Guinsoo's Rageblade. Choose Trinity Force for more health and Frozen Mallet passive.



Nashor's Tooth is very egzotic item for Varus, but try yourselve! It gives you some Cooldown Reduction, 65 Ability Power and 50% Attack Speed. It creates Varus build very hybride.

Strategies:

Taric and Varus works really good. Taric has everything would Varus ever dreamed. Starting with heal - Imbue to stun - Dazzle Taric makes Varus immortal. Great combo here: Start with Dazzle and Radiance, then hit enemy max. 3 times, use Hail of Arrows, hit 3 times and finish (if already not dead) with Piercing Arrow. Frag guaranteed.

Strategies:

With Soraka Varus can max and spam Piercing Arrow. Soraka doesn't have CC (w/o silence) and there is only one combo: Chain of Corruption 3x hit, Hail of Arrows, 3xhit and Piercing Arrow to finish. Remember! Chain of Corruption only snears enemy, he can still hit you. Don't use it against higher Attack Damage enemy like Vayne.

Preferred type of lane:
Kill lane

Strategies:

Bottom lane with Blitzcrank is very good. You can easily kill even at lvl 2 or 3. Just start with Rocket Grab, Power Fist, Static Field and Overdrive then use Chain of Corruption (if you don't have 6lvl yet just ignore ulti sections), 3x hit, Hail of Arrows, 3x hit, Piercing Arrow and enemy ad carry should be dead. It's the best combo ever.

Strategies:

If jungler won't come quickly do not attack before reaching Crescendo and Chain of Corruption. Then use combo from previous chapter's. It's the same with 90% of supports.
