Hello mate !

I am currently Plat IV and seems like enemies are more skilled and abuse my weakness pretty well and i end up getting beaten in lane and overall being useless and behind..
When i ult they just start running away, i cant really splitpush since they just abuse my cons too well.
How do i do to get better with illaoi in higher devisions ?

Hey! So, unfortunately I'm not that high on the ranked ladder, so I'll talk by sheer experience.
So, as you noticed Illaoi weaknesses makes her pretty problematic to play if the enemy knows her enough. Obv that the first suggestion I will make is: never go into matchups you know you will lose. When behind is really difficult to get back in the game, moreover since Illaoi's items are pretty expensive, so understanding which champs are more problematic for you (sure, the guide provides a matchup section, but in the end it varies from person to person, so you could feel different towards a certain champ) already is a step forwards to get better. Know your limits and how to avoid getting in those situations. Then if you are first pick... it's all luck based.
Illaoi imo it's less splitpush and more teamfight-oriented; this doesn't mean she can't splitpush, she has one of the best 1v2 potential, but sticking more to your teammates could be a good idea. Then you have to understand when to splitpush: if you don't have any knowledge about enemy positioning or if you don't read carefully the situation the enemy team can react better to your actions, stopping you from doing whatever you are doing and possibly disadvantage your team too (because they remain in 4 fighting, so there is this risk too). So the second suggestion is: understand when it's the right time to splitpush; do you know where the enemy team is? Can the enemy interfere with your splitpush? Can your team fight even on a numerical disadvantage? Are you ready to face multiple enemies? There are a lot of questions like this, you have to repeat them everytime you want to detach from your team. If you are behind stick more with your team and try getting back into the game.
When ulting, you must be sure that the enemy laner wants to trade back, never be to eager to press R. When your ult is down, you are prone to get ganked even more and fall into a pit you can't climb back. E your enemy first and look at how he's reacting: sometimes it happens that you won't ult a single time in lane, sometimes you'll have to ult every time it's off cd. Learn how to read your enemy and you won't waste anymore your ult.
About other tips I don't know unfortunately, you'll have to wait other answers (for example the one on goliath's one, since he's leagues (pun intended) better than me), I hope I have been helpful!

Really good guide! Very informative, with helpful details for items and playstyle choices. The only complaint I have is that some of the font is hard to read, but other than that it looks very nice.

Hey again (~°>°)~
Thank you again for the compliments and feedback, could you please tell me where is the problematic font?

Mr. Nyahr (8) | July 16, 2019 10:13am
Mainly just the font for things like "Back to Top". But it looks cool so i like it at the same time lol.

First of all thank you for the great guide! As somebody who has come back to the game after a long time absence of the game your detailed description of every possible scenario I can imagine has made it so I am actually good enough to play the game again, so thank your for that!

I just have one small question. You listed Yorick as a tiny threat, but I am having extreme issues against him. Even when I got my first item finished his ghouls take approximately q > AA sometimes even 2 Aas to kill and I am talking Games where we usually are pretty even.
What are your tips for dealing with him in general?

On another note I have not played for 4 years so maybe it’s just me not knowing how to play against the new yorick.

Thanks in advance.

Hey! First, thank you for your kind words! :D

Now, about Yorick the description of the matchup was made before a couple of tweakings that were made to him/his ghouls/his maiden making them a bit more resilient (so, as you noticed, you'll need a bit more than your Q). The focus point of the matchup is to harass him when he wants to CS, this way you'll limit his possibilities to spawn new ghouls (for him to create a new grave he needs or to last hit something with his Q or after a certain number of units killed thanks to his passive), no ghouls no problem. If he spawns them, then your main focus is to avoid getting hit by his E, so he won't mark you, the ghouls won't jump onto you and you can kill them while they are distracted by minions.
If you are getting shoved by Yorick, then just retreat under the tower and let it do its job. Quite ironically your best chance to kill him is when he all-ins you: after sterak you'll have a big margin for mistakes and with all the chaos created by the tentacles ghouls won't be a threat, halving his total damage output. Just remember that with the maiden out Yorick can still do a good amount of damage, so always try to stay even with the hp.
One thing that is still true in my matchup description (that I'll fix after this, so ty :D) is his splitpushing power: while illaoi is more teamfight oriented, Yorick is more "**** teamfights, the towers are calling me". Always keep an eye where he is in mid-late game and stop his pushes asap or else you could find him at your inhib after 5 minutes in lane. Setting him behind during the earlier phases can help you and your team delay this process, but deep down in your heart you know that soon or after he'll start tearing down everything.

edit: this is a tip that is valid when playing a top-laner that isn't illaoi, but y'know it's always nice to know something more: if possible fight him always in different zones, so he can't make use of the graves he already created.

tl;dr harass him when he tries to CS to limit the number of ghouls, if the ghouls are out avoid at all costs the E, if he all-ins you all-in (possibly not the other way around or do it only if you are 100% sure his maiden is on CD), take your team and stop him if he even tries to think to splitpush

hope it helps, gl! :^

1.Awesome guide, with that I can perfect my resolve/precison build (and maybe check Klepto build, even tho I'm not a fan of that rune)
2.9 tentacles on mid? I thought you can get 10 (4 from terrain, 6 ult hits, including soul from E)
3.lol the jokes

luv it <3

Apparently, I can slap people with tentacles, but I can't do math :p

Thanks for pointing that out and I'm happy that you liked the guide :D

Yes, I already saw your guide when it came out and it's a good guide, with some additional work it can become even better!

Nice guide, I think it could look a bit better if you adjusted the colour scheme overall though. Instead of red and blue in pros and cons, for example, I'd go with a cyan/teal combo and keep scheme for the rest of the guide. They match Illaoi but are also a really soothing and pleasant colour combo to look at. I would also chug out the default MOBAFire light blue because I don't think it looks very good and replace it perhaps with this softer blue #62bfc7 or, even better, teal #35d390 or mix them.

I'd also personally probably put in some banners but outside of that I think the simplest thing to do to up your guide is just change the colour scheme like I said. This is what I was thinking basically!. Changed the divider just a tiny bit there too, it's this one. Also this is not related to colours but you're missing a line of space right here.

Anyhow just some thoughts I had while reading the guide, it's good as is even without changes :) Nicely done once again Chomuro!

And after a week and a half I made the banners :^
I tried to keep it simple, I took a bit of inspiration from the banners inside Psi's Rek'sai guide (that should be your work right?), for now I didn't add the little titles inside the chapters and I'm not really sure if I'll do it in the future; I don't know if I like the ToC too, maybe if I come up with a better idea I'll change it.
Anyway what do you think?
1
Jovy (953) | October 17, 2018 12:00pm
I love the opening banner!

  • For the ToC, I think I'd just center the titles instead, or keep them all on the left. Otherwise I like it, nice colours. You can use this if you want to make the text a gradient like in the Rek Sai guide.
  • Also in the intro, there's 1 space more above the text than there is below it.
  • For the chapter banners: I think the text is a bit too big, I'd keep it about the same size as in the intro banner. I'd also move the line lower/raise the.. dragon boy thing a bit higher so they're not touching. And make sure the text and dragon boy allign.

I'd pick one text size and go with that. It doesn't look very good when you see the yuge PROS AND CONS and then the tiny skill description etc right below.
  • Irrelevant to the banners but the runes are a bit of sour-eye I think. I'd remove the squares around the runes, and just make them circles. I think jhoijhoi came up with that. Circles are just more pleasant to the eye I think.
    Code:
    [center][table width="auto" border="2px solid #844DFA" border-radius="100px" padding="5px"][tr][td width=90 height=90 padding=5][icon=summon aery size=75][/td][/tr][/table][/center]

    ^Like that

  • In items: I'd either remove the ^ and v or make them match the vertical dividers somehow OR remove the vertical dividers. Also, add one space above and below all the ^ and v's.

  • In combos: I'd enlarge the combo titles to size 5 or so, since they don't stick out as much as they should.

Think those are all my thoughts. I am completely out of thoughts, about anything, now.

Oh but obligatory, this is just what IIIIIII personally think would look nicer, there's no need to agree or implement any of these things! And another obligatory nice job on the banners! Esp the intro banner like I said, I love that one!

edit tfw you use !!!! 3 times in a row

Hey jovy! Thank you for stopping by!

You're right, the colours that you suggested are a nice match, I will surely use them! I learned a new colour today too (nope, I didn't know "teal" was a colour), so even better lol
About the banners I was thinking about adding them. Normally I wait like one or two months after publishing the guide before adding them, so I guess it's time to do it.
Thank you very much for the divider, I think once I've added all the colour will be a perfect match!
And that's a big oof from my side about the missing line, I'll add it asap.

Thank you very much for your feedback and for your kind words! :D
Now I need to understand why I didn't get a notification from your comment-

I think the colour I was thinking about is technically called "turquoise" but I wasn't sure how to spell it. That's potentially two new colours for you? Glad you like the suggestion and good luck with the guide(s)! :)

Heyo, thanks for the guide, it really helped me learn Illaoi a lot faster and now I main her. I just wanted to ask about the Conqueror Rune on Illaoi. Do you reckon it will work / be a good idea on Illaoi?
Thanks

Chromuro (47) | October 1, 2018 1:01am
Hi! First thank you for your comment!
Well, I reckon that conqueror can be viable, but... I can't think a situation where it could be a good idea, mainly for two reasons:
  1. conqueror is often used on AA-based champ (tryn, old aatrox), champ that can AA often (Fiora) or champ with AA enchanters (nasus and yasuo I guess? I don't remember if its Q is counted as AA or it just procs on-hit effects); illaoi would fall into the last category. You won't find yourself autoing your opponent a lot (maybe when everything is on CD lol), so your most reliable source would be your W. The point is your W does %max health, so converting it to true damage is useless, the only conversion would happen on the bonus damage that conqueror gives you.
  2. The most used runes on illaoi (klepto, grasp and to a lesser extent glacial aug) cover the problems that illaoi has: klepto gives you more gold (so you need less time to get your items) and it helps someway with the consumables (pray the RNG god), grasp helps your sustain in lane and it helps you stacking health when you need to build tank and in the end glacial aug can help you someway your movement problem by slowing your opponent (you know, you fix problems by giving your opponent more problems...); with conqueror you do... more damage? It doesn't help illaoi in any way.

This doesn't stop you to try it, as I said it can be viable, if you want the entire tree I would say Triumph/PoM+tenacity+CdG and resolve secondary then pair it with a full bruiser/bruiser oriented build, but I wouldn't suggest it.
Hope it helps! :^

Thanks for the help! I will stick to Klepto for now :)
