So basically I'm fairly new to LoL and was wondering if its better to:

A) Master one type of champion (i personally like AD/Jungle roles) or even a single champion

or

B) Learn to play several champions/roles to deal with how others pick before a game starts?

Sorry if this seems really basic to you guys but a push in the right direction would be nice :)

If you're new as in, first 15 levels, focus on one type. At around 20-25, start branching out to other roles to prepare for ranked.
True love is found only in yourself.

Every pro has 0-2 best roles and maybe a few best chars, but to answer your question completely, you should have at least 3 roles..

Learn to play one champ, it doesn't mean you have to pick this champ every game, but try to be absolutely godlike on at least 1 champ. The thing is, when you play a champ you've played a lot of times before; you're not focusing on how to master your champ mechanically but you're focusing on how to play the actual game. This will help to improve your game immensely so I suggest you just stick with 1 champ until you get at least a very good grasp of the game itself.

Choose one champion too master, and try out free week champions to gain more knowledge of other champions. If you know how other champions work you can master your own much faster.

Personally id like to say try the more you can and master the more because in ranked some of your choices will be bann and maybe you will not fit on your team comp so you gotta have to adjust yoursself.

mm, I'd actually go against what others say (master 1 champ). This doesn't mean that you need to have a lot of champs though.

My answer to your question is to get 2-3 champs to master (different roles) and then maybe be a bit worse (only "good") with a champ in each role that isn't filled up yet.

That's what I'd recommend newer players to do even though I do it different myself ^^ I'm using your A) option and playing very good junglers (4-5 different) aswell as casters (carry(2+)/support(3+)). I've also got at least one champion in the missing roles (tank, AD carry, bruiser) that I'm able to play.

Good thing: You can adjust the champion you play so that it fits well with your team / counters their team.

Bad thing: Mastering 10 champions isn't easy, so it's about playing the type well (but harder to know the exact limits of champs).
I'm back!

Well, but you could get a rune page problem, if you want to master too much champs.

It isn't really possible without more rune pages.

I think what I do, is a decent strategy while learning LoL:
I've got Kassadin, Corki, and Ashe unlocked (I'm like level 13 I think). I MAIN Kassadin, but I also play quite a bit of Corki and Ashe from time to time. This way, if I need to put my try-hard pants on, and win, I'll play Kassadin, but I can definitely hold my own with Ashe and Corki, since I play them quite a bit as well.
This gives me 3 champs that I'm comfortable choosing, all of which I'm good with, and I can pick whichever one fits best in my team for that particular game.

Also, not EXACTLY what you were asking, but I started to do this:

During every free week, just try out some champs! Random ones, that appeal to you. This not only will allow you to discover champs you love playing, but most importantly (To me, anyways. It's really why I do this) gets you familiar with champions that you WILl run into on the opposing team at some point. You'll find you're much more comfortable playing against champions that you yourself have had some experience playing. This way, you'll know how squishy/tanky said champion is, what exactly their abilities do, and in time, start to figure out approximately the Cool Down times for their abilities. That way, when you're laning against, let's say, an Ashe, you have a decent idea of when the next time she'll be able to harass you with her Volly. And that applies to every single champ. This is something I just started doing, and it really does help quite a bit :D

Also, you'll be more comfortable if you're forced to pick a random free week champ, when/if your team DESPERATELY needs you to.
