Views: 1587 Rumble Viable Top?

Hey guys,
what's up? I am planning to buy
Rumble as I played him a bit this week and it worked out pretty well for me. But while playing Rumble, a few questions came up my mind.
First question is: What should I do against strong laners like Irelia or Shen? I just played against Irelia and had no chance to farm. She jumped on me and nearly 2-shotted me. thanks to the ganks I could hold my lane pretty efficiently.
Second question : Is Rumble still a viable solo top champ? I do not see him very often and I don't really know why. Is he getting countered too easily or is he just a mediocre champion who is not really the best choice to counter some characters?

Ok, so I'll start playing
Usually I dont like playing without sc, but in this case it just makes a huge difference.
I like running spell vamp or MS Quints on him. Those runes do work fine for him though
Would AP also work? I don't have movespeed quints yet and I don't like the idea of spellvamp quints.
I think I'll just buy him and try my best.
What runes would you prefer for playing Rumble? At the moment I'm using tank runes and masteries... Runes are
But I do not feel like he is hard to learn as I don't play him very long and still get scores like 11/2... I'm also doing fine against Riven. His ult is just a bit hard to set with smartcast activated.
I don't think that most of the CC should come from top lane. On top lane you are supposed to farm and to zone your opponent so he falls behind (similiar to bot lane). If my team has enough CC like Ashe Ult, Cassio Ult and an Udyr, then why should the top lane have even more CC?
