Hey guys, just chasing a bit of advice.

I've been playing for about a week, using just the free champions. The only one I'm any good with is caitlyn. I was just wondering if rangers are still useful and whether or not they get used much in ranked matches.

Oh yea. They're normally called "AD Carries" though.

They have straight up a lot of damage and usually carry the team through the damage they deal.
That is of course, if the tanks keep the enemy assassins off them.

The 2 "AD Carries" in this week's rotation are Ashe and Sivir. Give them a try. They are of course going to be a bit different than Caitlyn as they are not the same champ.

Thank you to jhoijhoi for the sig, and all the dividers in the guide.

Cool thanks for your quick reply. I just didn't see that many other good rangers in game and stuff and was beginning to wonder if they were for noobs xD

Are all the champions available free during their week or whatever, or is it just a few of them?

There's always 10 per week and they change every Tuesday. Not sure exactly when they change though. I think it's early morning PST.

the LoL category for rangers would be called AD carries or ADC for initials. you dun see caitlyn so much because she just packs range, and not much gameplay.

Ah right. your pretty much fked if they get right up to you lol. Good from a distance though. Another question, When you go up a level and it says you've unlocked new masteries and runes or whatever, wtf does that mean, and what should I be doing with them??

Runes are basically worthless until you get to level 20 which is where the powerful ones start coming into play. They're small boosts that add up to a lot once you get a full set at level 30.
Masteries however are small little boosts that you can setup in your profile. Top right corner of your client. Looks like a person.

Click that and you can set mastery points. These are changeable before matches at any time.
Sig courtesy of GrandmasterD. Go get your own sig from them. :D

ADC (AD Carries) are a vital part to any team composition. They primarily focus on passively farming up gold (last hitting minions to get gold) to get the items they need to do a lot of damage late game. They do the most damage late game but generally are quite squishy (low health). They are generally played with a support at bot lane, in which the support lets the ADC get all the farms and protects the ADC.

Masteries are built in stats your champ can get by choosing to spec in the masteries.
To find it go to Profile --> Masteries.

Generally as you level up and reach the peak (lvl 30), you will have 30 points to spare.
Standard mastery trees generally have 21 one tree (minimum needed to get to the bottom of the tree) and 9 in another (minimun needed to reach an important stat)

For example, ADCs generally go for a 21/0/9 (21 offense, 0 defense, 9 utility), which looks something like this:

Thanks for your indepth reply guys. I'll be playing some games as ashe atm. I guess I'll wait till till later to play around with the masteries and runes. I come from a FPS backgrounds, the quake series and urban terror, so there's alot to wrap my head around with this game. I have enough IP to buy a champion, but I really don't know which one lol

trying out some new champs :D warwick goes alright, though not really my style. I like watching champions like warwick play but I suck at it, I'm better off keeping my distance :(
