Alright then, Hi there.

I've played League for a few months now, and I've stuck mainly to bots, because, I know the frustration in teaming up with a player who has NO experience whatsoever in a PvP game.

As I played, I slowly but surely learned more about the champions, and, I started to be the best player in the lobby in Beginner Bots.

so, I transitioned up to Intermediate. Again, I started to learn more about champions, buying more champions, and playing against more champions, (I hate Zilean.) I do consistently well in Intermediate Bots, and I find that the game has more depth in I Bots than B bots.

I read multiple guides, Whenever I get a new champion/play a new build, I always go into a custom game to LEARN my champion before I take it online.

I've avoided PvP like the plague, simply because, I don't want someone who is out of my league on my team having to carry me. And, if that wasn't enough I'm also new to Mobafire (Having an account and posting, at least, I've read guides on here since I started playing League.)

I am also a Level 24.

Now, after that GOD AWFUL LONG intro, now onto my question:

Masteries. I like them. They seem a way to micro manage your character, and I approve of that.

However. Besides the most basic AP/AD Mastery pages, I have no idea how I would CREATE one myself. I have a soft spot in my heart for my Lux AP Support (Which is a Hybrid, I thinks?) Along with my Passive Singed play (I fling you at my turret, sir.), and Also, My Jax. I love Jax.

I digress.

So, can anyone here give me a good way to 'learn' the mastery pages? Is there a set way to run Masteries that can blanket Most AP/AD/Support 's?

Or, should I give the time to have a page for my main champions (I run about 5, including the three above) and THEN try to worry about a less subtle mastery page for when I play a champion I don't main?

The main reason I ask, is because, back in S2, I would watch champion spotlights from riot, and Phreak would always say 'I run a standard 9 0 21' Masteries page'

I get the feeling that I missed learning this part, or, that there ISNT a standard page anymore.

I appreciate your help and opinion.

Not sure exaaactly what you're asking, but you can look at my mastery pages here if that's helpful. The AD and AP pages at least are standard.

I suppose I TL;DR'd this...

I'll simplify.

Are there blanket masteries for each type of champion, AD/AP/Support/Etc?
(I watch Champion Spotlights, and hearing him say 'I run a standard 9 0 21 Page' confuses me)

If there are, where can I learn them? And if not, should I make a page specifically for my main champions, and THEN make a blanket page for the champs I don't normally run, like an AD Carry page, and AP carry page, etc.

I either missed out entirely on learning this, OR, since S3, there are not 'standard' pages anymore.

Hope that I simplified it enough. Sorry about that.

You will, usually, put 21 points into one tree and 9 points into another tree, because the 21st point gets you the capstone mastery in any given tree and mastery points are most effective when they aren't spread all over the place.

To decide which trees you want to put into is usually fairly simple:
  • If your job is doing damage, put 21 points in offense.
  • If your job is absorbing damage, put 21 points in defense.
  • If you are the support, you'll probably want 21 points in utility.
  • If you didn't put 21 points in defense, put the remaining points in defense. Defense is always good for everyone all the time forever.
  • If you did put 21 points in defense, you are either playing a CC tank or an offtank/bruiser. CC tanks usually benefit from utility more than offense, so put the remaining points in utility. Offtanks and bruisers usually benefit from offense more than utility, so put the remaining points in offense.

As you put points into a tree, try to move down the tree as much as possible rather than picking up points on the same tier. Lower-tier masteries tend to be more powerful, and masteries at a given tier are generally meant to represent options rather than things you'll want both of. The offense tree is a very clear example of this: half the tree is meant for AD damage dealers, while the other half is meant for AP damage dealers.

The above are just general guidelines to help you while you figure this stuff out. They're usually true and work for pretty much all champions. But once you get a handle on where you want your mastery points, feel free to disregard them. If you need help figuring out which masteries to take in a given tree, don't hesitate to ask.

Also, I don't think there are really "standard" pages for all the roles, yet. For instance, I don't agree with either of GrandmasterD's support pages, although both are certainly functional. Different champions and playstyles call for different mastery pages, and it's still too early in S3 for people to be quite able to tell what's strictly ideal, IMO.

And these are the 'standard' pages, Grandmaster?

EDIT: ALSO: What are the distinctions BETWEEN these two pages? I mean, yes, it has more in the defense tree, but, HOW would I make the distinction, you see what I'm trying to ask here?

'standard' as in most common yes. Regarding the difference between the pages; can you ask something more specific please?

In S3 the standard 21/0/9 and such isnt really a necessity anymore. Alot of my pages look kinda wonky, like 22/3/5 or something like that. However for people beginning to learn masteries, the S2 standard still works just fine. Personally, I have a few blanket pages (ap, ad, tank) and then some more refined ones (ap jungle, ad jungle) and then a couple very specific ones (maokai magic bruiser, mordekaiser) for champs i play most that require their own special page. Look at other mastery pages from some top players and imitate those, they tend to work well. You should also look heavily into Runepages. By lvl 24 you should have at least a couple with all tier 3 runes. Now THOSE are a bit more complicated, and at least as, if not more so, important as the mastery pages.
