League of Legends (LoL) Question: How does someone skip a division?

How does someone skip a division?

I just finished 3 ranked games in a row that all resulted in a win with a friend of mine. Whereas I am about to hit a series, he was able to hit his series, and finish it. When we were done with the third game, we found out that he had jumped from Silver 5, to Silver 3. We went onto to LoL King, and saw it had yet to be updated (obviously), saying he was still in Silver 5, thus confirming the skipped Silver 4 division.

So, my question is obviously not if it is possible, but instead, how is it possible to skip an entire division, and why? He did mention that the game that promoted him was probably his 6th ranked game win in a row. Would this have something to do with it?

P.S. I know I just asked a different question, but I wanted to ask this as well.

It depends on MMR (matchmaking rating) - if your MMR is quite high riot will allow you to skip a division so your mmr more closely represents your league.

Winning spree doesn't matter at all, although high winning sprees do indeed tank your mmr pretty well. It's purely based on MMR (the reason you think its better to have little games played is because players with only a few games usually don't have a very accurate division in comparison to their MMR).

not really and not really :P

I skipped Gold III > Gold I and then I skipped Plat V > Plat III and then Plat III > I

^ on a side note - you need to be on one hell of a winning streak to achieve this, or you'll have to be smurfing. Also, the less games you've played, the more likly you'll skip when you're doing good.

Check na.op.gg/mmr (Pick your server if you are not on NA of course)

If the text is green and usually 100 mmr above average you will most likely be able to skip a division. Sometimes duo-ing will keep you from skipping a division so I would recommend solo queue to do this.

You will not be able to check your mmr if your recent games have been duo queue games or if you haven't played ranked in awhile.

Also, the website will stop telling you if you are above average or average mmr at around high diamond 4.

Yeah op.gg's calculations are way off. It told me I was like 500 below my league even though I get diamonds against me in every game

op.gg's calculation isn't accurate at all and I would not recommend using it.
