Lemme help you out..
Ok first, when u re size something. If you keep your hand on shift while adjusting size from the corner it wont stretch it.
Second your text is pretty bad, check out my text tut.
Third the background is actually a very good one you used.. but their is no depth, it has less depth then when you started, check out my blending and depth tut you'll understand, you do indeed seem kinda smart.
