Not really for a living (I don't make enough to live off of it) but I do build pc's professionally.
@OP:
If you're looking for a laptop on that budget, you should look for laptops that have a SSD and a decent graphics chip. I'd also discourage you from sticking to one manufacturer, as long as you stick to a reputable brand like Lenovo/Dell/etc you cannot go wrong. In fact, if you're looking for durability I'd recommend Lenovo over any other brand.

@Vynertje thank you, I've been looking at quite a few other brands as well, Lenovo, Toshiba and I've heard that some Lenovo laptops have bad display screens whereas the Toshiba has random drive problems and failures..

Face it, every laptop can have problems, even Asus ones. The most important thing is to look for laptops with everything you need and only after that comes brand reputation.
Pretty much everything decent can run LoL, an Intel HD4000 would even be enough to run it on low settings (I'd highly recommend to look for something better though). Same goes for Skype calls.
Are you going to use it primarily for gaming or do you just want to play a game of LoL once in a while? To me a macbook sounds like overkill for that purpose, but I'm not a laptop user so do take that with a grain of salt.
I heard good stuff about (Lenovo) Thinkpads but I believe those are more business oriented than gaming oriented.
I wouldn't recommend buying near high-end, buying "mainstream" hardware and replacing it more often tends to be cheaper, and it's less risky for your wallet to travel around with something like that. You don't seem to need some beast anyway.
EDIT: You might want to look into Lenovo's Superfish nonsense though.

I'm looking for a new laptop to use later in the future when I get into tech school for the Air Force this summer.
I know you guys are going to tell me to build a desktop, but because I will be in the Air Force,
I'm going to be moving a lot. So portability and somewhat durable is a must.
I've thought about a 2014 MacBook Pro 13' with retina, but people tell me it gets pretty hot during game play... and that the fps isn't that great.
Also any new model Asus users, hmu with your computer. I'm really attracted to Asus...
The budget I'm willing to spend is $1000, at most 1200(if I find it worth)
What I'm looking for:
Portability
Decent battery life
Thin
Quality build
Something usable for work/student
Handle long skype calls LOL...
Able to run league at atleast 40-50 fps constantly on medium setting for a couple games(mainly during weekends)
Somewhat durable because of traveling
Other thoughts, questions, tips, experiences are ALL welcome. Just don't hate.
Thanks!
