I never played as him but from my exprience, think before when you want to your ult when you are engaging a teamfight because for example, Riven and Shaco can easily escape your ult with her abilities and your teammate might not be able to escape your ult to chase him or other champs to finish them off.
Be aware of enemy summoners/abilities. Nunu might not have an innate escape but, if he has flash, he can easily get out for free.
Be aware of your team's skills.
1v1s because of your ult can easily turn into a 5v1 if you have something like... J4, Ezreal, Maokai, Katarina, Alistar. All of them have a way to get in the circle.
Make sure you disengage properly. Same things with engages.
If you can, get trinity force. It is an amazing item on him. Same with
Last Whisper. This makes his passive hurt.
Build tanky. Build damage. It's up to you to strike the perfect balance.

When playing Jarvan, you're gonna need to fully man up.
Are you playing bravely?
Good, now play 10x more manly and you MIGHT be playing manly enough to play J4.

That all changed with Jarvan's free week. He is the first champ that I could actually enjoy a game i LOST - that's saying something for me. Some of you may know the feeling - you start wanting to create numerous rune pages just for this one champ, you think "yea, maybe a skin IS worth it", etc etc.
So anyway, I've tried to both top lane jarvan and jungle jarvan, and have had mixed success. Especially with top lane, it just seems like he is beat so hard by champs with sustain, plus I always run into mana problems.
I've decided though not to give up. I wanna main jarvan, and I have been reading guide after guide on him. But I thought I would post here to see if anyone has any extra tips. How do YOU build him? Are there anything that you "learned" about him that improved ur jarvan gameplay? And what runes have you had the most success with?
Thanks, sorry for the long post!
