well, are you a Certified EMT?
Also, I do know what EMT certification is a fairly quick process and you dont do ****. (you drive people around... if you really want to save people, be a paramedic.)
Basically, the difference, is EMT schooling is so much quicker, but you make less money, Paramedic schooling can last up to two years and is pretty damn extensive, also paramedics are in higher demand as you can work not only for EMT/Paramedic service vehicles and hospitals, but you can work as a paramedic firefighter, or with the police.
Doors open when you have a paramedic cert.

Heh, sounds like I'm about to run into some problems... I'm starting my EMT class the 23rd of this coming month, and then I'm starting pre-medicine. Does the insurance standard in CA apply everywhere in the US? (Sorry to put you off topic)
The weak lose their freedom to the strong. Such is the way of the strong. And it is the providence of nature that only the strong survive. That's why I needed strength.
DEWO, what do you do?
Bloofyre, I am certified. Nationally, State, County, also Los Angeles county once I take a separate class for it.
EMT is very quick schooling. It only took me one semester and a few hundred dollars to get the certs. However, I cannot go for paramedic unless that is my career path. It simply takes too long and costs too much when I want to have an M.D. anyway. EMT is really for the experience points to apply for medical schools.
Mofo, I'm not sure about insurance nationally. All I know is that 6 of the 7 companies I have applied with do not self-insure and they are hence not able to insure me as an ambulance driver until I'm 20 (note that 20 is only if I have a perfect driving record). Some companies don't have a 2 driver at all time requirement for their rigs either. If you want to know specifics about your area, I would ask your instructor near the end of your class and if you have clinical shifts as I did, ask some EMT's. They may, but probably still will not know.

Ahh good man. Then the doors are all there open to you, you just need to find them ;)
And I know that may sound like the BS answer, but trust me, I know plenty of people in that field (family and friends) and happen to know my way around a bit since I was looking to get into it as well. Just drop by the Fire Station and ask some questions about how to get in. Be sure to go dressed nicely, even if you are just asking a few things.
Persistency is key.

To begin, ignore this if you don't have any advice pertaining to the Orange County, CA area. This is where I live, this is where I go to college, this is where I need to work. Second, if you have had no experience in the healthcare field, this also will not concern you. Third, if your healthcare experience is not Emergency Room or Ambulance based, this will continue to be useless.
To cut to the chase, I'm 19, and am searching for ways to get a job as an EMT in Orange Country under one of these ambulance companies: Shoreline, CARE, Doctor's, Medix, CRA, Pacific (also knowns as Bowers), and Lynch.
The problem I continue to have is my age, insurance will not cover me as I am under 20 unless I am able to get a job with CARE who is self-insured (this pertains to driving the ambulance). I am registered nationally and state and county as per code. I have everything I can to get a job. I even have experience with CPR, rollover traffic collision with an ejected passenger who suffered brain and heart trauma(ie, missing left superior portion of occipital lobe, and unfortunately triage (subtly, witnessing death while attempting resuscitation). I am a pre-medical student as well, willing to work full time as both an EMT attendant and student.
If anyone has advice, or connections, I would greatly appreciate the help.
