hi all
because my pc is kinda old right now
and with 550ti gpu, didnt doing well with gaming

so I just decide to rebuild my pc
anyway,

here is my plan

cpu - i5 - 4460
mb - msi z97 gaming 7 (well...msi host s sweepstakes on their fb, hope can win it...)
gpu - 290 or 770 (not sure which is better..I know both better than my 550ti)
dimm - 8g kingston

few question
1. do I need ssd for lol? I know it good for OS, but not sure if "need" for lol)
2. 290 or 770? which one is better? I know 290 is cheaper, but....I know nvidia better than amd though
3. I get 400 w psu already, is this ok for my new pc? or I need to get a bigger one?

plz, post your pc spec here, so can help me to decide with

I just build a rather cheap one for myself since I am not into playing AAA titles on ultra.

1.As for SSD, if you do not need super fast loading times it's not neccessary.
My 7.2kRPM HDD loads as fast as my Sandforce(?) SSD.

2. I am using a 270x which is totally suffficient for my own needs, they give the best price-efficency for the mid to high tier gpus.

3. I am using a 430 be quiet psu. the watt is important, while the manufactor should also be a rather high quality one (be quiet! xD) But since you are looking into more powerfull gpus, 500w should be a better option.

Corsair Carbide 500R case
Cooler Master VS V650S power supply
MSI P67A-GD65 (B3) motherboard
Intel core i5 2500k cpu
Kingston HyperX blue 8gb ram (1333mhz)
Sapphire HD6950 2gb gpu
Western Digital 600GB hdd
Crucial M500 240GB ssd
Asus Xonar DG soundcard

This is my setup. An SSD is very nice to have (not necessary for sure, especially for lol as you need to wait for everyone to be done loading anyway).

290 seems overkill if you don't go for a super high end system around it. It's better to invest that money in an SSD. For a 290 you'd need about 500-600W (not 100% sure tho but 400w likely won't do it).

It's also worth the consideration to buy an aftermarket cooler like the one I have (gelid tranquilo v2) so you can run at lower temperatures or even overclock. If you're not planning on overclocking there's no need for a Z97 motherboard either.

That's not a good bunch of ideas.
The motherboard is far too expensive for such a cheap CPU. It's often better to spend more money on the CPU than on the motherboard.
It's also called RAM, not DIMM. DIMM is a kind of RAM.

I recommend setting down a budget before asking people these kinds of things. Tell us how much money you can spend and then we can recommend parts to you.

1. No, you don't need an SSD at all. If you're okay with Windows and games loading slower and don't have a large budget then you might as well skip it.
2. 770 or 760. Nvidia has a slight edge in this generation (they released this generation like half a year later than AMD, so it it kinda should be that way).
3. It should be enough if you won't be overclocking. But it depends on how many disks you will have in the PC. If you're gonna add your old ones then you might need 500 to be safe.

Completely irrelevant.

That's a solid build.

What kinda **** SSD is that? Even the HDDs with the highest performance only get to about 100MB/s, while SSDs often reside above 500MB/s.

I am talking about LoL loading time.

Edit. Yeah my phrasing was very misleading.
But basically my Sandforce SSD made my loading in LoL just slightly faster. Not even mentionable. Since I wait for the rest anyway

If we are talking about Windows or Anno 1404, my SSD is obviously superior.
Loading Windows 8.1 in around 5 seconds and am always the first one in Anno 1404, playing with 2 others that also use SSDs, tho they use the first Samsung generation, which are not Sandforce.
