How can anyone say a thing such as "any other stats are useless". Unless you're the "look-at-meh-i-am-a-carry-soooo-gud-i-mean-really-look-at-meh" kind of DPS, I cant see how anyone could state this. Say you get flat armor and magic resist. Now let's consider it roughly gives you 15% damage reduction after armor pen(compared to the true damage you would get). Well 4 damage added to your 50 base damage means 8% damage output. 15% is stronger and wins the fight.

In the current support meta the bot laners with the most damage AND bulk will win the lane. If you trade while taking ~12% reduced damage while they deal ~6% increased damage you'll come out ahead.
And that's during the first few levels (about 1-5). After that the AD runes will be significantly worse while the armor and MR runes still will just as useful.
