No longer worth the gold on most champs as a core item. Getting Abyssal Mask earlier on champs whose spells're in the range of the aura is more cost effective. Won't work for everyone, but still better than waiting to spend almost 4K on this.

The itemization patch was meant to bring diversity to the game, but currently I guess all the AP builds will practically differ in 1 or 2 items. Everyone will have 50 def, zhonya passive, 30 mpen, 20cdr and with 3 more slots they really barely need to sacrifice anything. I think instead of making all in one items just removing Maw of Malmortius from TTL would have made AP squishies viable enough.

Last time i checked its built with Haunting Guise instead of Catalyst
