I don't buy pure health items(like warmog) for same reasons: You end up using more health than ally healing amount. But Spirit visage gives you 20% extra self healing, so maybe it's the only possible exception. Even then, I rarely buy spirit visage.

Her self healing got butchered with lower base healing and heal over time mechanism. There is no reason to master W anymore because her self healing is on Q now.
Why not try to master Q and W alternatively from"

"The new Patch on Q seems to force Soraka to get Ancient coin. I used to go with SpellThief but with a huge blow to Soraka's self healing(no more increased healing with missing health) I guess I have to go for Ancient coin. "
