Master Yi is naturally squishy, Frozen Mallet can help with the problem of squishyness of Master Yi. And Statikk Shiv has little sinergy with Yi, Frozen Mallet helps with the problem of no-CC on Master Yi."

But Garen can be a very good Off-tank in S3.
Just start with a Sunfire Cape, build a Warmog's and an Atma's. Build a Spirit Visage and a Malmortius. This is actually a heavy off-tank build."
