Meet the Croc

Hello everyone! I would like to introduce to you the rage and power of Renekton. I bought Renekton a while back and decided he was my top favorite champion in the League. His thick hide and bone-crunching power dominates anyone or anything that gets in his way.

Nasus, I'm coming...

Rage-filled Strength VS Blind Rage

The Pros

  • Good early game damage
  • Ability to zone out enemies
  • Mobility increase by Slice and Dice
  • Dominus gives a lot of HP to tower dive constantly
  • Fury mechanic allows skills to become stronger
  • Fun to play

The Cons

  • Slightly squishy early game
  • Late game progress is worst than to other champions
  • Item dependent
  • Needs to farm / get kills

Summoner Spells

The Offensive Spells

Exhaust is my personal preference on ADs, especially on top lane. I pick up Exhaust to shutdown enemies during a fight, to slow them down so I can catch up, or to use it defensively - slowing the enemy down to escape.

Ignite is picked by most people as a source of damage, true damage that is. I prefer this on my AP carries, but with the release of AD top laners with a healing spell like Rengar and Kha'Zix, ignite might be a better alternative.

The Defensive Spells

Heal is a very basic summoner spell, but it's a very effective one at that. It's uses are to keep team members alive as well as yourself or it can surprise your enemies by increasing your current HP from 1 to 400.

Cleanse is usually picked by top players or against a team with annoying CC. I don't recommend it because it has a long CD and has to be timed right.

The Escapes

Flash is still one of the best and most used escape summoner spells because of it's ability to blink offensively and defensively. Whatever you can't get over with your Slice and Dice, your Flash most likely can.

Ghost is an alternative escape summoner spell that is underrated compared to Flash. Ghost last longer than Flash and can reach farther distances than Flash, but has a slow start time. Use offensively by initiating or defensively.

Other Spells

For obvious reasons. Smite is use to jungle and steal dragons and baron nashors.

Teleport has it's uses through a game - Allowing you to teleport to help a team fight or gain a team advantage, to farm a lane or defend a tower, or to backdoor a lane. Teleport can be use to escape from attacks and death as well.

Skill Sequence and Explanation

Renekton's skill set is very unique because of his fury mechanic. Below will be a explanation of his skills.

SPACE This passive pretty much tells us that Renekton uses fury. Below 50% of his health, he produces 7.5 fury from all sources

Tips
  • Your skills have huge bonuses when you have 50 fury
  • Spend your fury wisely
  • Keep up at least 50 fury before a teamfight
SPACE

SPACE Renekton's ballerina dance of death. Cull the Meek is his most important skill - Having a great range and damage for harass and is what keeps Renekton in his lane
forever.

Tips
  • With 50 fury, Cull the Meek has an increase in damage and lifesteal
  • Having a low cooldown, he is able to spam this happily
  • With a good radius, you can use Cull the Meek while running away to gain some health
SPACE

SPACE Renekton's CC skill. Provides a decent stun but tons of damage. Great skill to use when you're on the initiating side.

Tips
SPACE

SPACE Renekton's utility and mobility skill. Allows Renekton to initiate, chase enemies, and get away from them. Does a good amount of damage as well as shredding armor for a percentage.

Tips
  • Picking this up early game allows Renekton to harass like crazy
  • Hit a minion or enemy at an angle and use the secondary effect to cover farther distances
  • With practice, you can dodge skillshots and prevent successful ganks with Slice and Dice
  • Can dash through thin walls and obstacles like Baron Nashor's cliff
SPACE

SPACE The ult that competes with Nasus'. Renekton gains a huge health bonus, a surrounding AoE damage that can sky towards 1,500 magic damage, and constant fury gain.

Tips
  • While in a fight, surprise enemies with a health boost from Dominus
  • Dominus' health boost allows Renekton to constantly tower dive
  • Dominus' health boost can save you in desperate situations
  • If you're fury starved, activating Dominus before an engagement isn't a bad idea
  • This ult can easily turn a 1v2 into your favor
  • The range of the AoE can score kills by just chasing the enemy/enemies
SPACE

Ability Sequence

> > /

The main focus is to max your Cull the Meek Q, and your preference between Ruthless Predator W for damage and the stun or Slice and Dice E for a lower cooldown on your mobility skill, and then picking up your Dominus R whenever possible.

You can pick up Ruthless Predator W to secure the successfulness of an incoming early game gank.

Skill Uses

Basic Harass - Turn on Ruthless Predator > Slice and Dice > Click on target for Ruthless Predator > Cull the Meek > Slice and Dice

Lifesteal on Minions/Pushing a Lane/Farming a Lane - Slice and Dice (to push/farm a lane, use on a row of minions for maximum effectiveness) > Cull the Meek > Slice and Dice ( Ruthless Predator whenever possible if you're looking to push/farm the lane)

Chasing - Slice and Dice > Slice and Dice (if you're not in range already) > Ruthless Predator > Cull the Meek > Slice and Dice (if you didn't yet)

Basic Initiation - Slice and Dice > Slice and Dice (if you're not in range already) > Ruthless Predator (most likely on a carry) > Cull the Meek / Dominus > Cull the Meek / Dominus (whichever you didn't do) > Slice and Dice (if you didn't yet)

Fury Starved - Dominus > Slice and Dice > Slice and Dice (if necessary, but recommended so you don't spend 50+ fury on it) > Ruthless Predator / Cull the Meek > Slice and Dice (if you haven't done so) > Ruthless Predator / Cull the Meek (whichever you didn't do)

Fleeing/Escape - Ruthless Predator (if you're in range, if not, skip and use whenever they're in range) > Slice and Dice > Slice and Dice (if possible) > Flash (if necessary)

You might wonder why I stopped after 2x Doran's Blade. Well, after obtaining 2x Doran's Blade, there's two branches that the build flows into:

Fed and full Renekton

After being fed, you can buy a B. F. Sword which later builds into Bloodthirster.
Mercury's Treads comes after
Buy another Madred's Razors and transition into a Madred's Bloodrazor for shredding power and attack speed for fury gain.

The lifesteal of your Wriggle's Lantern, 2x Doran's Blade, Bloodthirster, and your Cull the Meek Q will keep your health up and negate the fact that you have a small health pool. After the game progresses, you can build more offensive items listed below or more defensive items, also listed below.
SPACE
Decent/Behind Renekton

Building more health in the form of Giant's Belt(if you're behind) or Phage(if you're doing "okay") is a good transition, forcing you to build up to a Frozen Mallet and Atma's Impaler after.

This should give you good amount of damage, but if you're doing better, grabbing another offensive item listed below before putting on armor and magic resistance is also a good decision.
Basically, you want to follow the item pattern from The Item Build - Top Lane.

Items to Consider

Here are some other item choices:

The Offensive

Trinity Force
Generally built on Renekton if he's fed. This item, however, replaces Frozen Mallet as it needs a Phage. Be careful - you will lose a good amount of health for damage!

Infinity Edge
Another item to get when you're extremely fed. The crit stat pairs extremely well with Atma's Impaler and Youmuu's Ghostblade

Youmuu's Ghostblade
If you decide not to sell your The Brutalizer, building it into a Youmuu's Ghostblade is a great idea - Supplying you with a 15% CDR, 20% armor penetration, and 4-8 seconds of attack and movement speed increase

Maw of Malmortius
An incredible item, scaling in AD as your health drops and giving you a nice shield against those AP champions. Great pair with your passive, Reign of Anger, but competes with your Cull the Meek Q

Madred's Bloodrazor
If you haven't built Wriggle's Lantern, you can build this expensive item that shreds health from pesky tanks. Great paired up with Last Whisper or Black Cleaver

Last Whisper
Great replacement for The Brutalizer or even Youmuu's Ghostblade. Gives a huge percentage of armor penetration to deal a good amount of damage against tanks and deals even more damage against carries.

Black Cleaver
A weaker version of Last Whisper but provides 15 more AD and attack speed.

Phantom Dancer
Huge attack speed boost, a crit stat that pairs with Infinity Edge, Trinity Force, Atma's Impaler, and Youmuu's Ghostblade, and a movement boost that pairs well with Force of Nature.

The Defensive

+++

Armor

+++

Sunfire Aegis
Provides a good health boost as well as a armor boost. The AoE synergizes well with your ult.

Randuin's Omen
Gives a huge armor boost, minor health boost, nice health regen, but the most important - It's active - Slowing all nearby enemies and their attack speed. Anti-carry.

Frozen Heart
An alternative to Randuin's Omen, giving a higher armor resistance, a forever passive of decreasing enemy attack speed, and a better CDR. However, you don't gain a health boost, health regen, the ability to slow enemies, and the mana boost is gone to waste.

Thornmail
Excellent anti-carry item. Kill them without focusing them.

+++

Magic Resistance

+++

Wit's End
A nice item, giving shred power, attack speed, and magic resistance. However, you have to be continuously attacking something to gain the full benefit of 50 magic resistance.

Quicksilver Sash
Amazing item that removes all CC and debuffs on Renekton. Basically a Cleanse but with a lower cooldown.

Banshee's Veil
Gives a good magic resistance boost, a health boost that scales with Atma's Impaler, as well as a shield that blocks a single incoming spell. Be warned, the mana boost will be useless.

+++

Survivability

+++

Warmog's Armor
The armor that doesn't give armor. But what is does give is a HUGE health boost to compliment your Frozen Mallet and/or your Atma's Impaler. The health regen would be nicely paired with Force of Nature.

Heart of Gold
Usually built early game for health and gold. Builds into Randuin's Omen

Shurelya's Battlesong
Gives a nice active speed boost for chasing or fleeing. Good health boost and health regen, but a useless mana regen. Almost never built at all, even if there's no support champion.

Spirit Visage
Provides a decent amount of magic resistance and health. Nice boost to your Cull the Meek Q, but becomes underpowered lategame.

Mobility

Ninja Tabi
Has a defensive effect as well as an armor boost. Good alternative to Mercury's Treads if you're rolling Cleanse and/or Quicksilver Sash.

Ionian Boots of Lucidity
Great boots for the CDR. I use to build this on Renekton until I fell for the defensive aspect.

Boots of Swiftness
Never built on Renekton because he has so much mobility already with his Slice and Dice E and Greater Quintessence of Movement Speedes if you're using them.

Berserker's Greaves
Usually built on AD carries. Good paired with Wit's End. Almost never built on Renekton.

The Gameplay - Top Lane

Early Game

Renekton is a very powerful early game champion. While you are on the loading screen, check which champion is going top lane with you and what summoner spells he has. Be wary of his skill set and his summoner spells. Once the game begins, click on your opponent to see what runes he has. If he has a powerful early game like you, don't trade or risk damage until level 3 where you can harass like crazy with your skill set. Remember to ask if your jungler is ganking your lane early so you can pick Ruthless Predator instead of Cull the Meek. Speaking of junglers, be alert for the opposing jungler and don't forget to ward! Renekton will always have a huge CS because of his AD and Cull the Meek so don't worry about CS, then again, don't lose focus on CS.

Mid Game

From here, if you done things right, you should have a nice CS lead against your top lane opponent, maybe 1-3 kills. You can start roaming to gank mid lane, ambush the enemy jungler, or kill jungle creeps while your lane gets pushed so you can farm your lane again. Top lane is a competition between your AD and the top lane's armor so spending 50 fury on Slice and Dice may not be a bad idea. Remember you can tower dive and get away with a lot with Dominus and Slice and Dice Try to be successful in your lane so your jungler only has to worry about two lanes - Whatever lane your jungler doesn't gank, you can.

Late Game

Renekton's late game is somewhat bad, but with proper CS, kills, and assists, Renekton can overcome this disadvantage. Your job as a bruiser is to take abuse and deal out enough punishment in order for your AD/AP carry to achieve the kills. Remember you only need a handful of kills to support yourself. Pair up with your tank to initiate a teamfight (also a good reason you shouldn't take all the kills - the opposing team will be focusing on you!). Remember to use Dominus whenever necessary and keep up at least 50 fury for Cull the Meek! use the stun from Ruthless Predator when necessary. Also, with Baron and Dragon warded, you can Slice and Dice in, unleash your skill set, and Slice and Dice out to steal Baron/Dragon.

Welcome to the Jungle - Pre-Gameplay

The Least Important Creeps

Wolves
SPACE
Wraiths
SPACE
Twin Golems

Spawn At : 1:40 - Respawn : 1:00, after death(Wraiths respawn 0:50 after death).

These creeps only have important in early or mid game when you steal them from your opponent (counter jungling). Otherwise, you just kill them for gold and experience whenever you see them up.

The Significant Creeps

Red Lizard Buff
SPACE
Blue Golem Buff

Spawn At : 1:55 - Respawn : 5:00, after death.

These creeps change the way your team work. Blue buff usually goes to AP mid, giving them an advantage over his opponent, while Red buff will giving you a DoT and slow advantage, making ganks more successful.

The "I'm watching you..." Creeps

DRAGON

Spawn At : 2:30, Respawn : 6:00, after death
SPACE
BARON NASHOR

Spawn At : 15:00 - Respawn : 7:00, after death

The importance of these boss creeps are very high. They are game changers - Constant team-global gold flow from Dragon and a very powerful buff from Baron Nashor. Warding Baron Nashor with your Wriggle's Lantern or a sight ward is very crucial! Usually bot lane support is warding Dragon, if not, change that!
The respawn times of Dragon is very important to take note and will be explained in the next chapter.

Making the Jungle Your Swamp

Time to Jungle...
Advanced Approach
  • Grab a pair of Boots and 3x Health Potion
  • Ask for help on wolves camp, pot whenever
  • Move towards wraith camp, pot whenever
  • Gank at lvl 2, if not, move to Red Lizard camp, pot whenever
  • Recall, buy a Long Sword
  • Donate early Blue buff
  • Continue jungle until gank is needed
  • If gank is not need, squeeze one in

Beginner/Safe Approach

Basically...
  • Grab Cloth Armor and 5x Health Potion
  • Smite big wriath, kill the rest
  • Kill wolves
  • Kill Blue
  • Kill wraiths
  • Damage Red lizard, smite, kill small lizards
  • Kill twin golems
As your jungle knowledge expand, you can mix it up and do a different variation. You would want to gank every lane and help your team out.

Ganking Examples

BLUE - Level 2 ganks
RED - Level 4 with Slice and Dice ganks

Importance of Dragon

PINK - Dragon
BLACK - route to cliff of Dragon
RED - Slice and Dice areas

Upon reaching level 6 and grabbing Dominus and buying Wriggle's Lantern and 2x(maybe 1x) Doran's Blade, you can solo Dragon. Dashing through the cliff allows you to bypass wards and allows you ninja the Dragon, giving you a HUGE advantage!

Follow the proper item build(s) from The Item Build - Jungle and Items to Consider.
