What is Udyr? Why Udyr?

What is Udyr?
Our manbearpig here is a Tanky DPS who is more focused on Tanking than doing DPS. Udyr's DPS without items is unrivaled, as one Wingborne Storm/ Wilding Claw can do up to 400 damage alone at max rank (Not counting defenses). The best part is that both stances are spammable if you manage your mana well. He is also a full-melee champion, meaning that he needs to go up close or be in the middle of fights to do damage. That is why Udyr is more Tank than DPS, he does a lot of damage without items already. You should always prioritize defenses over damage as Udyr because of this. That does not mean you should build full tank Udyr, but you should build more defenses than damage.

Why Udyr?
Udyr is a very versatile champion, and in almost all situations can be a great pick to your team. Most will pick Udyr in the jungle, to make the most out of the camp clearing/dueling/counterjungling/ganking strength of Wingborne Storm and Blazing Stampede. Others will pick him for a top laner, to maximize his early damage potential and sustain through Wilding Claw and Iron Mantle. Whichever is your preference, Udyr is a great pick overall.

When not to pick Udyr?
In some cases, when the opponent has a lot of kiting on their team, do NOT pick Udyr. Why? Udyr lacks a true gap closer, unlike Xin Zhao who has Audacious Charge, or Irelia who has her Bladesurge. If you pick Udyr against a team of kiting, it is likely that you will be unable to catch the opponents most of the time.

Runes

Phoenix Udyr

For Phoenix Udyr, I aim to build a rune page with the right amount of damage, durability and speed. So, it would be this:

9x Greater Mark of Attack Speed to get the Phoenix procs off faster.
9x Greater Seal of Armor Durability for AD champs and jungle creeps.
9x Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist Scaling MR for mid/late game, when mages are the most powerful.
3x Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed Faster movespeed for better ganks.

You can sub out the MR glyphs for Greater Glyph of Armor if you feel that getting Wit's End and Mercury's Treads give you enough magic resist.

Tiger Udyr

For Tiger Udyr, I aim to build the most damage possible, to make the most out of my early game damage and push my enemy out of lane and gain an advantage.

9x Greater Mark of Attack Damage For more damage on the Tiger on-hit.
9x Greater Seal of Armor Same reason as above.
9x Greater Glyph of Magic Resist Same reason as above.
3x Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage For even more damage on the Tiger on-hit.

NOTE: In no way do I force you to use these runes. Runes are completely subject to personal preference.

Masteries

For Phoenix Udyr, I take 0/21/9.

Skills

Monkey's Agility
Entering a stance grants Udyr 10% Attack Speed for a short duration. This effect can stack up to 3 times.

This passive helps Udyr in the jungle. To make the most out of it, make sure to switch stances between.

Tiger Stance
Cooldown: 6
Cost: 55/50/45/40/35
Range: 600

Activation: On his next attack, Udyr swipes at his target, dealing normal attack and dealing 150% of his attack damage + 30 / 80 / 130 / 180 / 230 extra damage over 2 seconds as magic damage. In addition, your attack speed is increased by an additional 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 / 35% for 5 seconds.

Persistent Effect: Udyr's attack speed is increased by 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40%.

Core of Top lane Udyr. This skill is very damaging and gives Udyr the ability to go top. Early game, few champions are able to withstand your high damage and you will be able to farm safely. Make sure to land the first attack on a champion, since the proc will damage them a lot. Compare it to Decisive Strike, they deal relatively the same amount of damage.

You can choose to take a point in Tiger at level 6 when playing Phoenix Udyr for more damage.

Turtle Stance
Cooldown: 6
Cost: 55/50/45/40/35

Activation: Udyr gains a temporary shield that absorbs 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 / 220 (+50% of ability power) damage.

Persistent Effect: Udyr's attacks cannot crit, but he restores 10 / 12 / 14 / 16 / 18% of his damage as health and 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9% of his damage as mana.

A great stance for sustain and tanking. Prioritize resistances over health, because Armor/MR affects your shield as well. Use this for sustain in the jungle and top lane if needed.

Bear Stance
Cooldown: 6
Cost: 55/50/45/40/35

Activation: Udyr gains 15 / 18 / 21 / 24 / 27 % increased movement speed for 2 / 2.5 / 3 / 3.5 / 4 seconds.

Persistent Effect: Udyr mauls his target with such force that they are stunned for 1 second. This effect cannot occur on the same target for 6 seconds.

Without this skill, Udyr would be worthless. You can do so many things with this skill it's not even funny. Use this to initiate, escape, save people, stun channeled ultimates, and to run in and out of the enemy jungle. One point is already sufficient because it gives you a lot of movespeed already in rank one.

If you don't believe me, 390(0.15) = 58.5. Which means when you use Blazing Stampede Udyr has 448 movespeed.

Phoenix Stance
Cooldown: 6
Cost: 55/50/45/40/35
Range: 600

Activation: Udyr sends out pulsing waves of fire dealing 15 / 25 / 35 / 45 / 55 (+25% of ability power) magic damage each second to nearby enemies for 5 seconds. In addition, Udyr's ability power is increased by 16 / 24 / 32 / 40 / 48 and his attack damage is increased by half of that amount.

Persistent Effect: Every third attack, Udyr engulfs enemies in front of him in flame, dealing 40 / 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 (+25% of ability power) magic damage.

The core of Jungle Udyr. You clear jungle camps easily and you can counterjungle effectively with this skill. When switching stances to proc Bridge Between, remember to get the Phoenix proc off before doing so.

Why do you jungle with Phoenix/Lane with Tiger?

I've had some people ask me that question. Truth is, you can use Wilding Claw for jungling and Wingborne Storm for laning as well. However, one just simply outclasses the other in different aspects of the game.

"Why?"
Well, lets take a look at Wingborne Storm first. The core part of jungling is clearing camps fast and ganking lanes/invade the enemy jungler right? Wingborne Storm provides a great clearing time of 3:30 (Credits to Stonewall008), thanks to the AoE damage and proc. This will prevent yourself from being counterjungled because you will clear your camps really fast, and your buffs will be secured. Also, Wingborne Storm eliminates the need of Wriggle's Lantern to jungle, due to the passive proc of Wingborne Storm which is a free Wriggle's proc every 3 autoattacks.

Also, Wingborne Storm also excels at counterjungling. Since you clear really fast, you can do the same to their jungle as well. The main rule of counterjungling: Get in, get out. I mean it. I mean it by running into their wraiths with Blazing Stampede and clearing it with Wingborne Storm. This is why Wingborne Storm is so good in the jungle.

"What about Tiger Udyr?"
Well, lets see here. What is needed in top lane? Sustain, able to return harass, and durability/survivability. Fortunately for us, Udyr has all of these. But what makes Wilding Claw so special? It deals HUGE early game damage. This is why whenever the opponent comes in to farm (assuming he's melee), you immediately hit Wilding Claw and autoattack him, and the proc will devastate his HP.

"But I can do the same with Phoenix Stance!"
Yes, you can. However top lane is probably the easiest lane to gank. Since, Wingborne Storm deals AoE damage, you will push your lane hard. And as we all know, Pushing lane = Going into enemy territory = their jungler ganks you = you're dead.

TL;DR They both have their strengths and weaknesses, but one is better off used in x, while the other is better off used in y.

Jungle and Laning Udyr Playstyles

An important thing to note is that both types of play styles are completely different.

Jungle Udyr:
When jungling as Udyr, you should not think of yourself as the carry or DPS machine. Instead, you will need to play as a tanky peeler and/or damage soak. Since you get little farm in the jungle and having no gap closers, Jungle Udyr will have to build straight tankiness with one damage item to be effective ( Wit's End). As with most junglers, Udyr will have to tank almost everything when ganking, teamfighting or skirmishing. You should NOT however, attempt to initiate. The only CC you have is one stun, so by walking into the enemy team you aren't doing your team a favour.

Laning Udyr:
Now, laning Udyr must focus on snowballing as you will get farm and Wilding Claw gives you a huge early advantage. While you will still be tanking stuff late game, laning Udyr will have to focus the enemy squishies and take them down since you can build an easy advantage against the enemy team. Udyr is specifically easy to snowball with, so it shouldn't be too hard to do so. When going into fights, try going behind the enemy team and assassinating the squishies, or stay with your initiator and kill stuff.

Summoner Spells

I take Flash and Smite/ Ignite

Flash is VERY IMPORTANT! I can't stress how much Flash has helped me in game. Udyr has no natural gap closers, so this is a dream come true. Also, Blazing Stampede won't save you if you are being CC'd by 5 people, but Flash will.

Smite for jungling.

Ignite for Tiger Udyr, because it stacks with your proc, and you can kill people easily.

OTHER OPTIONS:

Ghost if you want to be really fast with Blazing Stampede, it just sucks that the movement speed caps at 500, so Ghost's effectiveness gets reduced by 50%. Take it if you like to though.

Exhaust if you want to be a more aggressive ganker.

Teleport if you're against a bully/ranged top lane. Vladimir, Yorick, Rumble.

Items

The following build is for Jungle Udyr. The build focuses more on being tanky, because Wit's End gives you a lot of damage already.

Do note however that items are completely situational; the following build is for sample purposes only.

Item Sequence

Mobility Boots 1000
Wit's End 2800
Spirit of the Ancient Golem 2000
Timeworn Talisman of Ascension 2200
Runic Bulwark 2950
Randuin's Omen 2700

[
You can't jungle without this item now. Buy it along with 5 potions. There isn't much to say about the machete.

Much better than philosopher's stone because you can build a Kindlegem instead to build into a Shurelya's Battlesong.

I get this because it gives me a lot of damage for what it's worth. It synergizes with Wingborne Storm so well, able to proc Phoenix more often and have durability at the same time. Get this even if they have more AD's than AP.

I usually get Ninja Tabi because Wit's End gives me the magic resist needed already, and Udyr doesn't really need the CC reduction because if the enemy is smart, they wouldn't be wasting the main CC on Udyr. However, feel free to take Mercury's Treads if they have overwhelming magic damage. Also, as mentioned by Stonewall008, Mobility Boots is great on junglers now because of the extra mobility giving you more time to travel between camps to keep up in farm and levels, and to gank lanes.

A great item to build into a Shurelya's Battlesong due to the extra health which makes you pretty durable, and the CDR will enable you to spam your skills more.

I get this because this item is relative cheap for what it gives you. It helps a team greatly, let alone yourself. The aura will be very useful because you will be peeling divers often, and Aegis will save your carries from the divers. It can also help when you go in for a gank, and your lane partners dive them. The 12 Armor can save them from a tower shot that could have been fatal.

Awesome item for Udyr. Tenacity, Health, Armor AND regeneration? Perfect item for tanking!

Also an awesome item for Udyr, it makes your tanking ability extremely well since you get a lot of stats for little gold.

I buy this item now. Before you could just build whatever you want and kill things because not much people had dashes. Now, it's not the same. You're going to need the movement speed boost to boost both you and your allies in different situations.

This is great against AD carries, it completely ruins them. I build this because it assists your team greatly due to the active, and the attack speed reduction will significantly reduce the AD carries' damage.

OR if you're fed...

You can replace Randuin's Omen with this item. As usual, Trinity Force increases damage on almost all bruisers by a huge amount, Udyr is no exception. This is because the proc is easily cycled when Udyr spams his stances, and each and every stat is useful on Udyr.

Items (continued)

The following build is for Top lane Udyr. The build focuses on damage early on to maximize early game damage, while being tanky at the same time.

Item Sequence

Ninja Tabi 1100
Wit's End 2800
Randuin's Omen 2700
Spirit Visage 2900
Trinity Force 3333
Guardian Angel 3200

NOTE: Sell your Doran's Blades later in the game if you have no space for bigger items.

Boots are very versatile and will help you dodge skillshots/evade ganks/catch opponents better, so start with these items.

I like to have two Doran's Blades now since the extra health makes you extra durable and they're extremely cost efficient.

Your best friends for damage until late game. I like to rush Wit's End since the proc synergizes well with your Wilding Claw attack speed passive, along with the attack speed and magic resist. Also, Phage provides damage and tankiness with CC for Udyr to stick to targets better. Since you have lots of attack speed, you will proc the Phage very quickly.

Choose your boots accordingly. If they have overwhelming AD, buy Ninja Tabi. If they have overwhelming magic damage, buy Mercury's Treads.

Rushing Randuin's Omen will give you a significantly powerful mid-game, as you already have a lot of damage, and therefore you are better off tanking stuff than building more damage.

The new Spirit Visage is extremely powerful for Udyr. The passive is really powerful when you are tanking stuff or sustaining back your health (It eliminates the need for lifesteal due to Iron Mantle + the passive), and it now gives 50 Magic Resist, which is worth buying.

Same reason as above.

Finishing your build:

Great item for Tiger Udyr because you have a better ability to carry than Phoenix Udyr, so Guardian Angel can help you carry better by surviving.

Bear in mind that the 6th item is completely situational and you should decide what to buy accordingly.

Other Items

OFFENSIVE ITEMS:

Good item if you need to be even more tanky, build this instead of Trinity Force. Also useful if you can utilize this to pin down targets, due to its passive.

Not the best item for Udyr, since the majority of your damage in Wilding Claw comes from its proc, and Iron Mantle doesn't allow crits.

An okay item for Tiger Udyr if you're snowballing hard and you aren't really dying that much.

Not a good item. Way too overpriced, get Wit's End instead.

Extremely good item for bruisers after the buff, however Udyr simply cannot afford a complete damage item without being fed, so build this item with caution.

Only get this on Tiger Udyr if they're stacking armor.

I don't really get this item, but feel free to, since it gives a lot of stats.

Only get this on Phoenix Udyr if you don't need to be as tanky as usual.

Take this if they are really stacking MR, and you need even more damage as Phoenix Udyr. However this is rare.

Not really good for Tanky Udyr. You don't scale well with crit (See: Infinity Edge), and it's way too expensive. Get this if you're playing for fun, like DPS Udyr.

Take this item on Tiger Udyr if you think they have too much burst magic damage.

This item is meh I guess. You can get it on Phoenix Udyr, but there are better choices.

This is a great item for Phoenix Udyr. No, really, it gives decent attack speed and AP. Get it if you want a nice increase on your overall DPS.

Good late game item for Udyr if you snowballed from the jungle hard enough.

DEFENSIVE/SUPPORTIVE ITEMS:

Get this instead of Aegis if you think they enemy AD is too fed and you will need all the armor you can get.

Great item for Udyr. It will make Turtle Stance extremely powerful, and those Tryndamere's will be killing themselves. However, I prefer Randuin's Omen because armor alone won't save you.

Take this item if you think the next few fights will decide the game and you can't afford to die, or if you want a decent mix between MR and Armor.

zeke's herald
Get this if you have hyper carries like Vayne, it benefits them a lot.

If they have a deadly CC/Ult, like , take this item.

Take this item to be unkillable. This is usually not recommended to buy however, unless you have sufficient Armor/MR.

RIP FoN, it was one of the best tanking items for Udyr :(
Back to Top

Turtle Stance

That's right, there is a special chapter for this stance.

Why is this needed you ask? Well, Turtle stance is a very versatile skill for Udyr and you can use it in many situations.

Here I will teach you how to use Iron Mantle in different situations and make the most out of it.

Top 10 situations:

10. Burst damage: You know when hits you? Turtle stance can negate just enough damage to save your life.

9. Caitlyn Ult: When your ally gets ulted by an Ace in the Hole, Turtle stance can not only save your allies' life, but put Caitlyn's ultimate into uselessness since Udyr is very tanky and sometimes Turtle Stance will have 10 percent of it's shield left even after the ultimate.

8. Tanking: When you initiate, Turtle Stance can mitigate some of the damage, enough time for your teammates to react and you would have not lost too much health if it weren't for Turtle Stance.

7. Skillshots: Skills like can damage your squishier allies a lot. By blocking it with Turtle you would have saved your ally from the edge of death, or even to death itself.

6. Sustain: Perfect for the jungle and top lane, you can sustain yourself forever and never be in jeopardy of dying.

5. Heal baiting. This one is awesome. If you took Heal, and you have Wriggle's Lantern/ Spirit Visage, many bricks were shat on the day that Tryndamere dives you.

4. Damage over time. Skills like Malefic Visions, Ignite, Torment can kill you when you just Flashed out and you have a DoT on you. Turtle Stance can negate the damage, just enough for you to survive.

3. Absorb lane harassment. This is a good one. Udyr poses a weakness to ranged champions, and Turtle will help reduce that weakness.

2. Delayed Damage. Skills like Hemoplague, Chum the Waters will render you dead, if Turtle Stance did not save you. The reason why this is 2nd is because usually the player would think (I Ulted Udyr, he should die in 3, 2, 1...) But all they get is nothing. And they start raging :D

1. Karthus ultimate. This has got to be 1st. Nothing feels better than when you are low on HP, Karthus ults thinking "PENTAKILL, I MUST GET A PENTAKILL", and Turtle saves your life.

*A summoner has disconnected*

Bear Stance

Yep Blazing Stampede gets its own chapter too.

What makes Blazing Stampede so good? Well, without it, Udyr cannot chain his abilities together, he would not be able to close gaps on targets, and he would not be such a great disruptor/counterjungler.

I will teach you how to utilize Blazing Stampede to its fullest.

First, if you need to gank people, open with Bear Stance. Always do this, never initiate with another stance as you become very slow if you do so.

Next, to peel people. If you see that pesky Talon hitting your Malzahar, stun Talon and hit him with your stances. Together, with your damage and Malzahar's Nether Grasp, you can instantly make it a 4v5.

Also, to escape. When you have 5 people on your tail, spam Bear Stance to run away. Before you had to switch between Bear and Turtle to get your dodge chance up (The old passive), but now that dodge is removed, I like to spam Bear Stance. Sometimes if they are too close to you, you can stun them before running away.

After that, to assist allies. If you see a greedy Xin Zhao with Ghost popped, chasing your low health Vayne, stun Xin with Bear, and attempt to duel him to get him off his tracks. If you are going to lose the duel however, just stun him and run, hoping that he'll chase after you instead. You dying is more affordable than the AD carry dying, so don't hesistate to do so.

Finally, to stun channeled ultimates. If you see Galio channeling Idol of Durand, or Katarina channeling Death Lotus, stun them and put their ultimates to uselessness.

Jungling

Jungling is easy for Udyr. Start at wolves and go on the following path:

Wolves > Blue > Wraiths > Wolves > Red > Wraiths

The bottom left corner of the image has the legend for reference.

Take Wingborne Storm at level 1 and keep activating it to clear camps faster. However if you don't have blue remember to manage your mana wisely, maybe activate Wingborne Storm once or twice in each camp, if you don't have blue.

READ THIS!!! THE JUNGLE PATH IS SLIGHTLY INCORRECT. DO NOT GO TO YOUR GOLEMS. INSTEAD, GO BACK TO YOUR WOLVES AND KILL THEM, THEN GO TO YOUR RED.

Remember to gank in between clears.

Also, take advantage of Udyr's awesome counterjungling ability. When you see their Jungler at top lane, take his wraiths, red or small golems. If you see him at bot, take his wolves or blue. Place wards at buffs to see if you can take them. Remember to keep track of when buffs/dragon/baron respawn(s).

Make sure to gank for your teammates, and hold lanes if needed. To gank, run in with Blazing Stampede, stun, and activate Wingborne Storm immediately. When jungling with Wilding Claw, activate Wilding Claw and wait for 1-2 secs. After that, Blazing Stampede in to stun the target while applying the Wilding Claw DoT. This is to have guaranteed damage.

Sometimes if all your lanes are in jeopardy of getting destroyed by the enemy jungler ( Shaco is a great example of this), I skill I do is to counter-gank. This means that if you think a lane is about to get ganked, stay in the brush near it. When the enemy jungler comes in, you go in as well. You will usually win the fight since Udyr is one of the best junglers, but don't get too confident as junglers like Lee Sin or Skarner can beat you and your lane partners.

Also, remember to WARD! Warding helps your team greatly in map control and that 75 gold might just save you from a 3 man gank. Some people may say "warding is a waste of money", but I tell you, those are the dogs, who have no room for improvement. Always buy 1-2 wards whenever you go back to base if you can afford it, and ward according to the locations I have plotted on the map.

Basically, as Jungle Udyr you run wherever and whenever you want, to counterjungle or destroy things.

Early laning

Early laning is very strong for Udyr. He is able to return harass and farm safely. Try to balance out farming and harassing, to maintain the advantage over your enemies. When the enemy goes in for the last hit, hit Wilding Claw and chip away at their health. Remember to not spam your skills too often as Udyr runs OOM very easily early on.

Mid Game

Udyr has a great mid game, because he turns very tanky and has lots of damage at the same time. Now you should push your lane and start ganking for your lanes, since Udyr was a born jungler and even though you are laning you should gank at least once. It will help your team out a lot. Also remember to protect your carries. When starting fights, you and your jungler should go in first.

Late Game/Teamfights

In late game, you have to stay with your team. One mistake can lose you the game and you won't want that happening. If your team needs to push/baron, always be the one to go in first, since you are the most durable.

In teamfights, you have two options: Dive their carry or protect your carry.

I usually dive their carry if I am more fed/farmed than the enemy carry or if my own carry is stronger than the enemy carry. Udyr can kill targets easily, so always go for their carry if you spot the opportunity.

When I am losing the game, or the enemy AD carry is as farmed as hell, I stay near my carry to protect them from divers. This is because sometimes if you dive the enemy carry they can melt you easily if they are too powerful. When peeling, always Blazing Stampede first.

Phoenix Top Lane/Udyr jungle

**This section has been removed and will be updated when I gather the correct information for season 3.

Skill combos

Ganking: Run in with Blazing Stampede until you stun them, immediately switch to damaging stances.

Escaping: Spam Blazing Stampede. Use Iron Mantle if they have ranged attacks to pick you off.

Quick Tiger Harass: Activate Wilding Claw but don't attack, then use Blazing Stampede and stun the opponent (This applies the Wilding Claw DoT).

Jungling: Wingborne Storm to start, wait until the proc goes off, then use Iron Mantle. Always keep your Bridge Between up.

Top Lane Match-ups

Champions that you beat easily:

If for some reason Fizz goes top, you can beat him so hard it's not even funny. He has such a low base armor for a melee. Always deny him farm with Wilding Claw, play offensively.

Nasus is food for Udyr. Harass with Tiger whenever you can. You really need to do so, or else he'll farm until late game and kill everybody.

Singed will have mana problems if he tries to fight against you. So be aggressive against him to prevent the god-mode singed everyone hates. Be careful of jungle ganks however, Singed has lots of CC.

Xin Zhao can't really duel you because you're significantly tankier with more sustained damage, but be very wary of jungle ganks as he synergizes extremely well with those. I recommend playing on the defensive with some harassment.

Galio counters magic damage, but he doesn't counter attack damage. Easy kill, shield his harass with turtle and you're good to go.

Pretty much the same as Singed.

Easy lane. Squishy, bad farming, easily ganked. Be careful of her level 6 however, it can be devastating if you let yourself absorb too much harass. Basically you have to beat her early on or she'll snowball.

He got stronger because of the new Black Cleaver, so don't take too much harass from Talon or you're in for some trouble. Basically you would want to stack early armor and shield his harass with Iron Mantle, and harass with Wilding Claw quickly because Talon has no sustain whatsoever.

Irelia has a horrible early game. Punish the player for picking Irelia by using Tiger whenever they come close. You shouldn't have too much problems throughout the game against her. However she'll aim for your carries in teamfights, so watch out for that.

Keep harassing with Tiger. He's very squishy early game and you beat him most of the time, unless he gets racked in farm. You want to get your jungler to gank Tryndamere often to shut him down even more.

Fiora isn't much of a problem because she's very squishy compared to you. Rush an early Ninja Tabi and harass the living daylight out of her. Do however, be wary of close trades because of her ultimate.

So far I've beaten all Hecarims at top. His Rampage is inferior to your Wilding Claw, play aggressively and you should score lots of kills at top. Remember to watch out for ganks as Hecarim can ult you to death.

Yorick will be a pain early on when your turtle stance hasn't been leveled up very much, but once you do, you can sustain his harass pretty well. Make sure to put in a few points into Iron Mantle early. I don't recommend to go all in against Yorick because of his sustain, but simply farm and survive. You are much stronger than he is late game.

Champions that can go either way.

Farm fest. He sustains your harass, you block his harass. However if they don't start cloth, you can beat him early on.

This lane depends on whoever is smarter. A good Udyr would always hide behind minions. Always do that to prevent Infected Bonesaw. However, try not to get into fights with him too often, as if you start losing he can permaslow you and kill you. Basically you have to farm in this matchup, but don't hesitate to harass often since Mundo is quite squishy early on.

Garen can be a problem if you don't know how to handle him. Start cloth armor and farm in this lane. When Garen comes in with Decisive Strike, either run with Blazing Stampede or shield it with Iron Mantle. Garen has no damage without his abilities, so you want to farm until he uses both of his abilities. THEN you want to harass back.

You beat Jarvan straight up. But like Xin Zhao, be wary of jungle ganks, he synergizes really well with those. Also, you will want to preemptively Iron Mantle before he tries to harass you with Dragon Strike.

Jax is quite a funny champ to play against. You can harass him, but try to bait his Counter Strike so that you won't miss your Tiger stance proc. Remember to deny him early on or he'll just start killing everybody.

Don't try to harass him, he's way too tanky and you will waste your mana trying to harass him. However, he can't really harass you either, since his mana costs are a boatload. Just farm and call for ganks if needed.

You beat him, easy. However when he starts pushing you want to make sure he doesn't push to your tower, or you miss CS. Also, refrain from dueling him at leve 6 because he can kill you easily. This is one of the only times where I would recommend going Phoenix top to outpush Mordekaiser. However, you can start Tiger to get your jungler to gank top forever, since Mordekaiser auto-pushes.

Same as Garen.

You two deal relatively the same amount of damage, but you are tankier. Try to force Riven to B, because if she snowballs you are screwed for the game. Also, bait her Valor so that you can deal full damage to her.

Farm. Just farm. You can't kill each other, and if you get low Skarner gets low as well. Just make sure to be aware for Impale, you will get baited hard if you get too aggressive on Skarner.

It's a good idea to harass Warwick early because his sustain skill, Hungering Strike, costs much more mana than Wilding Claw. So, you can make him waste mana and he will become an easy gank target. Also, remember to ward or his Infinite Duress will help when somebody is ganking you.

You beat GP, but the problem is that he can kite you easily. So most of the time I don't start the fights, but I let GP start the fight and I proceed to kill him. Just prioritize farm however, and shield Parrrley with Turtle.

Lee Sin is super easy to deal with as Udyr, but your only problem is if he maxes Tempest and kites you while hitting for large amounts of damage. Basically you would want to stay near your minions so he will push the lane, and if he tries to duel you, you can shield his damage easily and Wilding Claw will rip through his health.

If it weren't for Turtle, he would be very hard to lane against. Build lots and lots of armor and farm, you won't be harassing him anytime soon since he outdamages you early game, and his passive can block your Tiger proc and Bear stun.

You beat AD Sion easily, but AP can be a problem. Attempt to break his shield with Tiger, it is half of Sion's damage. So if you manage to do so you won't have problems. For AD Sion, harass ALL the time so that he won't turn into the hyper carry status. AD Sion has a horrible early game.

You easily beat him. But he's only on this list because if you get ganked you're in for some trouble, since he deals so much burst damage. Just attempt to kill him with Tiger since he has horrible base health (for an offtank), but don't push.

Rumble is a lot like Yorick, just that he can kite you harder than most champions. You can effectively harass him, but he can take farm from a range and can kite you with Electro-Harpoon. It will usually be easy if you play smart and harass occasionally with Wilding Claw.

Olaf actually isn't that hard to lane against with my new build. You can shield his true damage and counter harass with Tiger as it deals relatively the same amount of damage as his Reckless Swing. Since you have built in lifesteal and attack speed, you can beat him in duels if you are careful. Just don't get harassed too much with Undertow or you will have a hard time.

Once you've learned how to fight against Darius, it actually isn't that hard. With my new build the sustain and health will make Iron Mantle extremely durable against Darius and the quick damage from Wilding Claw can actually hurt him hard. You just can't fight him outright or you risk giving him a kill. Harassing him is enough.

Champions that beat you hard:

You are likely to lose this lane. He can poke you easily and can Sanguine Pool out if you try to harass with Tiger.

If hell had a definition, it would be in lane against a Kennen. This bastard of a squirrel harasses you easily with his autoattacks and his Thundering Shuriken it's not even funny. Plus, if you try to get him he can just Lightning Rush out of there. You're in for some trouble if you are against him at top.

Nidalee is OP at top lane. So much sustain and harass... Just farm against Nidalee, there isn't much you can do against her since she kites you hard as well.

This champ is just plain stupid. Enough said. Kites you hard with two of his spells, can harass you from afar, and practically unkillable thanks to Ravenous Flock.

Notice how all of the champions that beat you easily has a slow or a good escape that can kite you easily? This is why you must pick Udyr strategically. If the enemy team has kite written all over it, don't pick Udyr.

Jungle Match-ups

Since the new jungle, literally everyone can jungle. However I will only go over the junglers who are often used/viable as one.

Champions that shouldn't even jungle:

If you're the Fiddlesticks, take a moment to reflect upon yourself, "Why did I pick Fid when they had an Udyr?"

Likewise, you can just smack him around like he's nothing. Fid has horrible clearing speed and you can take a lot of his jungle before he even knows. On top of that, he's extremely squishy. If you ever see him in the jungle, assault with Blazing Stampede. Right when he tries to Bountiful Harvest you, stun him with Bear and kill him with Wingborne Storm. Should be free food for you as Udyr. Remember to invade at level 1 to steal his blue, to make him even more worthless.

Even easier than Fiddlesticks. You can kill him very quickly and you can steal his jungle creeps very quickly as well. I don't even understand why Karthus is a jungler. He has no sustain, very squishy, sub-par ganks... Just run into his jungle if you want a free kill, because he's always there for you. However don't get yourself kited by Wall of Pain for too long, or his team will come and kill you. Similar to Fid, steal his blue often.

Champions that you should have little problems against:

Amumu is only a good jungle with enough farm and blue buff. So you should go invade his jungle often, especially his blue. He should be easy to kill when he does not have blue, so try to look for that opportunity.

He clears fast, but he doesn't have good dueling power. So try to kill him early on.

Fiora may be a bad jungler, but she can duel well. Don't try to counterjungle too early as it is likely that she can deal with you toe to toe, but try to catch her at Red buff/Golems, since she gets low often on those creeps.

He shouldn't be a huge problem, but don't try to duel him as he can kite you forever. I usually take his red to prevent his ganking power to increase.

Jarvan isn't a good duelist compared to others, so you can try killing him at Red/Golems. However when it gets to late-early game, I stop trying to counterjungle him since he gets really strong at that point.

Nautilus may be a good ganker, but his weakness lies in the fact that he has a slow start, and he is very susceptible to counterjungling. I enter his jungle often, since it is easy to pick up creeps and kills from him. However when it gets to around levels 6/7, leave him alone. He can duel you at that point and take forever to kill, which means his allies will arrive and kill you.

He has good clearing speed, which means he might try to counterjungle you. In order to deal with this, gank lanes like mad. Master Yi really doesn't have any ganking power (so he can't assist his teammates when being ganked) and you can kill him anyway if you see him in your jungle/his jungle.

Champions that can go either way:

Be very cautious when you try to counterjungle Alistar. If you get caught, his CC/tankiness can keep you pinned down until his allies arrive and kill you. Because of this, I usually go for his wraiths ONLY, since it is a really easy camp to clear and you can run down the river for an easy escape.

You can take most of his creeps quickly, since he lacks AoE for clearing speed. However don't try to duel him as he has quite a bit of damage early on. That doesn't mean you can't beat him, it just means you can't kill him quick enough to get your *** out of there.

Don't bother trying to duel him, he's way too tanky and he can reduce your damage thanks to Ground Slam. However he is extremely blue dependant, so I ward his blue and take it often.

You should take his red/golems since most Rammuses usually follow the blue path. Without red, his ganking power is hampered by a noticable amount.

I won't bother dueling him because he has too much sustain. But I counterjungle Shen like mad mainly because he doesn't have good clearing speed. Also if you steal his farm you can prevent him from assisting his team.

He's really tanky and has a good escape, so don't go for him. However you should countergank Volibear often, since he gets his gold from kills and assists due to his bad farming. If you successfully steal his creeps/countergank, it's a 4v5.

He can't duel you, but be very cautious because he can trick you to your death. Try not to hang around his jungle for too long. Other than that, Wukong should be easy to kill since he's squishy early on.

Most junglers fear Shaco, but not Udyr. You are too tanky for Shaco to kill. Your raw damage from Phoenix just crushes Shaco since he's really squishy for a melee. However don't stay in the jungle at low health, as he can finish you off and run away easily. Make sure to watch out for poofs of orange smoke.

Champions that can stand up against you:

I've been experimenting with counterjungling Shyvana recently, looks like I vastly overrated her. She can still clear your camps like really quickly, but due to the nerfs she has received, she is now easy to beat in a duel.

He's an incredible duelist. I don't try to duel him either, since his Shroud of Darkness can cancel the stun from Blazing Stampede. Countergank Nocturne however, he's extremely squishy early on. Plus, he's somewhat mana hungry, so try to make him waste mana on ganks.

I won't bother with Trundle. He's too tanky and he deals much more damage than you do early on.

I won't bother with him either. Chances are if you are stealing his wraiths, he's at your golems, since he's mainly a counterjungler. Plus, you won't be able to catch him because he kites you easily with Ice Blast

You and Skarner are pretty even. Which means, you want him to make the first mistake. Essentially, you want him in your jungle so that you can kill him with your teammates.

Take his creeps or something, but don't try to duel him as he has godlike sustain and tankiness.

Champions that you will have problems against:

He's the best jungler in the game IMO. You lose in everything compared to him (except overall tankiness), so just farm and gank lanes when needed. If he engages on you, avoid fighting if you have Tempest on you. Dodge his Sonic Wave (The burst damage is ridiculous), and you will be fine.

Dr. Mundo is now on this list. You know why? I did not realize how strong he was in clearing camps, ganking and counterjungling. His dueling power is unrivaled as he gets +40 AD at level 1 thanks to his E, and his W does SO much DPS it's not even funny. I avoid Dr. Mundo often, but you should gank if you're against a good Mundo because you're in for some trouble if you stay in your jungle/his jungle for too long.
