She should be really strong that way on disengaging and stopping enemy assassins as your carry basically can't die due to the bonus lifesteal of 20%! She should be also unkillable while that is running. The problem is tho, her cc isn't really that strong. And obviously, the healing massively benefits from if you go for more AP.
I've seen someone playing her offtank once with Spirit Visage and Frozen Heart as tank items + Rod of Ages and she absolutely dominated the game. Basically what happened a lot is that her empowered snare ability heals her. Not by just a bit, but for like 600+ HP. Twice.
As a result, it made her pretty much unkillable at any stage of the game. She was of course quite fed at that and nobody knew in my team how to play against someone that mains Karma :P.
I don't know a lot about Karma to tell you how good she is as a tank right now, but I can confirm that I have seen some crazy stuff in that match with some smart itemization on her.
