That used to be pretty fun :D
Yeah I mean if they're already on top of your booty then you might wanna have barrier, whatever works best for you <3
I just play as Jerry (the mouse from Tom and Jerry) and always roll with exhaust and flash. I make sure they never get on my booty. It's really a cat and mouse game. Kinda like being an assassin, but instead of finding opportunities/moments to execute your enemies you dip in and out of situations to help your teammates with phat heals, silences and damage reductions.
I always say, whatever works best for you, roll with that. Forcing someone to play a certain playstyle doesn't work in their favour. It's just what I found myself working the best for me.
Have fun :D
How was Mordekaiser's room like, was it messy? Filled with metal band posters and electric guitars? Jokes aside XD Good job on escaping the Death Realm! He should've just went with Morellonomicon.. or Thornmail if your team was heavy on physical dmg.
All you gotta know is that the GW items apply 40% healing reduction. Both Chemtech Putrifier and Morellonomicon applies GW by dealing magic to the enemy champions, whilst Thornmail applies GW when champions auto attack the player with Thornmail.
All three of them can also increase the effect to 60%. For Chemtech Putrifier it's healing or shielding allies. For Morellonomicon they gotta be under 50% of their max hp. For Thornmail your enemies got to be immobilized.
There's not much you can do against anti-heal, it's a counter build item. Things you can do however is dodging abilities so that GW doesn't apply on you. That way atleast you still get full benefit out of the heals from landing Q's and using your R.
EDIT: As of patch 11.18 when using R, Grievous Wounds gets removed from all targets before applying the ultimate heal.
Hope that helps!
It'd be a blast hanging out with you <3
If anyone else reads this feel free to join aswell, everyone's more than welcome :D
I wanted to thank you for your work, it changed my perspective on the support role.
First I tried to play Soraka with your build, then I decided to put redemption and not arcangel (I know it gives a lot of AP and thus a lot of heal), I found it more interesting.
Then I checked other people runes on Soraka, their game and they didnt seem to struggle about their hp regen, so I put scaling HP in seals instead (I changed it again to flat hp).
Then, I decided to play Janna again, and I was like "Hey let's try this guy build with Janna" (with the adjustments I did), I did some maths and it was pretty good, however Grail is not that good on Janna since she doesn't really poke (tbh, I don't know if I should play Soraka with Eye of the watchers or Eye of the Oasis, with Janna, I found myself shield 50 less points, which is not that much for a safer laning phase with Ancient coin). So I used Mikael's Crucible instead of Grail on Janna, and I might not use it on Soraka too (the difference when buying Mikael or Grail is almost non existant despite their passives). Since redemption, Mikael and Ardent Censer give me +40% on my heals and shields (+10 for a total of +50% with Windspeaker), the difference of +30% heal with this build (redemption + ardent censer, Grail) and this build (redemption, ardent censer, mikael) is not noticeable, the + 20% of Mikael (for a total of 50% (with windspeaker)) overcomes the loss of AP with Grail.
I then have my 45% cdr, + 50% on my heals and shields, I have a lot of hp regen. My last item being rabadon's Deathcap.
Let's sum it up :
- Runes : armor in marks, flat hp in seals, flat AP in glyphs and quints.
- Eye of the Oasis, Boots of Mobility, Ardent censer, Redemption, Mikael's Crucible and Rabadon's Deathcap.
(I sell my boots of mobility late game for Luden's Echo since it gives me +10% MS, I checked it and my MS is still very high, it's enough. I didn't try that Luden's Echo on Soraka or Lulu so I can't tell if it'd be as effective on them).
So, what do you think about it ?
You encouraged me to do a guide for my friends and I (that you can check if what I wrote is too messy to be understood), it helped me to grow up as a LoL player and for that, a big thank you.
Sorry if it's a bit messy, I'm dozing.
Thanks again !
Alex,
Awwh, first of all thanks for the kind words I appreciate it alot! c:
As mentioned before Redemption is an alright item, it comes down to preference, it really is a team oriented item, to make the most out of it your team needs to be coordinated and group up, I also don't really like the 200hp stat on it and the 2.5secs. delay I feel like it's a tad bit too long, especially in late game when people die in split seconds.
Scaling hp regen is fine if you think you'll play more passive early game and not trade too much. I personally like to have the advantages early game to set myself up for mid and late game, you can do the same by playing more passive and have it scale up. Note: Riot mentioned runes and masteries are being revamped (I don't know when but maybe beginning of next season?), so don't spend too much on additional runes (they'll be removed, the spend ip on runes will be compensated in some sort of way, maybe not 100% compensated).
Janna indeed doesn't really poke that much, her Q is pretty slow and not too reliable of a damaging skill to stack Athene's compared to Soraka's Q, and Janna's W doesn't do enough on it's own. So picking Mikael's over Athene's on Janna is a good choice. On Janna I definitely go Oasis because it's way too hard to proc Tribute on her. For Soraka Oasis was super good until the revamp they did, Watcher's became really good, however Oasis has been getting buffs recently and it's really on par with Watcher's. As of right now I'm on vacation and I don't have too great of internets here so I can't really do proper testing.
So the deal with Athene's vs the healing and shielding power items is the following: passively you'll heal more with your W and R with the healing and shielding power items, but when you hit your Q you will have a bunch of stacks that prevent burst damage without having to immediately pop your R. Alot of the healing also comes from the replication on Soraka's Q so Athene's further boosts your healing on every Q you hit when you heal with Athene's Blood Charges. With the Blood Charges you also heal alot more per 10% hp you sacrifice. However it all comes down to how many Q's you hit (aswell as the damage you deal with E), if you don't hit too many then the healing and shielding power items are definitely better, but do keep in mind that when playing Soraka it all comes down to how many Q's you hit, to sustain yourself up and thus sustaining your team's health.
Again, it really depends on the playstyle that you like more and what works better for you. Athene's got alot better with the new passive (5 AP per 25% base mp regen) and Watcher's definitely boosts this item even further with the 50% base mp regen it has. However with the recent buffs to Oasis it may be good to go back to Oasis and Mikael's rather than Watcher's and Athene's. Mikael's gives more safety to heavy cc teams and the passive healing is also better.
Runes are fine (Seals I believe you meant to say hp regen).
The way you've constructed the build is good aswell, you decided to go for Redemption (has 10% cdr) so you've picked different boots to not go over the cap which is also good, I'd prefer Swifties because of the slow resist in combat, Mobility boots are really good for roaming (if that's more your playstyle), but in combat the movement speed is only 25 which is kinda slow, not too much fan of that myself.
As for the Luden's Echo, it's really a great way to gain additional AP while adding movement speed from the item due to no boots, however games really have to be going super super long for that to happen. I used to do a similar thing on Sona, switching cdr boots for Lich Bane (gives movement speed more AP and the 10% cdr), this works really good on Sona because she has an aoe speed buff build in her kit which also scales off AP. A late game Sona with alot of AP still moves really really fast without boots.
:D I'm happy to see that I've encouraged you!
Cya around :3
Sorry if it was misleading, I meant flat health in seals, not health regen. I tried some games with these runes and I find myself doing fine early game as long as I Q the ennemy time to time to get my hp back.
Like you said, hitting your Q is everything on Soraka and since I'm not always hitting it I prefer a more passive playstyle.
By the way, you mentionned Redemption and said it was reliant on the team, I agree, however you said the 200HP it offers was bad, I disagree with that, I tried myself just adding this item and my W cost me like 20 more health which is not a big deal.
About Eye of the Watchers and Eye of the Oasis, late game (if you remplaced Watchers by Oasis) you just lose like 30 shield power for Janna.
I want to try to calculate it for Soraka so let's do it.
1 - I will use your items (but with my runes, which means 26 more AP - Arcangel not stacked) : your W will give 200 (+356) = 556 + 20% heal (ardent censer+windspeaker) = 667 (let's say 670) heal per W.
2 - I will use my build (kinda the same as Janna) : Eye of the Oasis, Swiftness Boots, Ardent Censer, Redemption, Mikael's Crucible and Rabadon's Deathcap.
My W will give 200 (+167) = 367 + 50% heal (ardent censer, redemption, mikael's crucible + windspeaker) = 550 heal per W.
So here's the deal, with your build you will heal for 120 more HP, heal 250HP whenever your Grail's passive will be up and a little bit more heal power when your tear will be fully stacked.
However, with my build you will have an easier time for your laning phase (no need to poke to get golds (which doesn't mean you need to stop harassing ofc)), a way better HP regen, more MS with swiftness, an AoE heal with Redemption and a QSS with Mikael's Crucible.
It's a personnal choice but I prefer that extra-utility with my build so I can help my team even more and prevent deaths.
So, what do you think ?
PS :
I agree about the Luden's Echo, since
Thanks,
Alex,
Ohh, I see, well I haven't ever tried flat hp, I don't think I've got those runes, but if it works for you keep using them :)
Redemption indeed only costs 20hp more per W and it's not too big of a deal because you'd only have 1 extra W each 10 W's you'd cast, but it would be nicer if the 200hp was either 25 AP, Armor or MR (same value but more useful stats). The 2.5secs. delay is probably the biggest thing I dislike about it, but I agree that it's still a decent item.
I completely get your build, it's well constructed aswell. As I mentioned in my previous reply Athene's and Watcher's go well together due to Athene's recent buff. However my previous build was Mikael's instead of Athene's which is still really good. With Oasis being buffed so many times recently it's really on par with Watcher's and maybe even better right now, so if it takes Watcher's spot then Athene's becomes a worse pick aswell because Athene's and Watcher's go well together.
I haven't made too much time playing league and testing it out recently since I'm on vacation right now, but Oasis and Mikael's does seem like the safer choice especially if you like to play more passively. The only big difference in our builds is probably Redemption which you pick over Archangel's which is probably a better option than picking it over Rabadon's, and because of Redemption's 10% cdr you swap the Lucidity for Swifties which is also a correct thing to do.
Both builds seem to be really good right now (Oasis/Mikael's and Watcher's/Athene's) it just comes down to what playstyle you prefer more. More passive and safer with Mikael's cleanse or more poke and prevent burst damage not immediately using your ult with Athene's. And as for Redemption it's whether you like to have more global presence or more presence being near allies plus having a big shield in case of burst damage.
I think you've got great build :) nothing too crazy, no weird items, the items work great together.
Ohh, I actually haven't realized Janna's passive scales off AP aswell (just like Sona). Yeah, I've tested it on Janna, it works great you don't really lose too much movement speed but you gain SO much more AP, definitely worth buying if the game goes on that long. You indeed really need some kind of movement speed like Sona E or Janna's passive on W for it to work.
Cya around :^)
It's me, again, I won't stop annoying you :D
How do you feel about
She's countered by so many things :
So what does that mean ? You should prey or pick Soraka if there are no tanks in your team and thus make them waste an entire item just to counter you (I'm thinking about Mortal Reminder here).
That's the reason I've stopped playing her, RIOT's items are way too unhealthy for some playstyle (here, Soraka's playstyle).
Alex,
Haha :P all good
I think she's still great. Yes the new Thornmail now also has Grievous Wounds effect but you can play around the GW effect from the items applying it. I made a post here on July 12, 2017 going more in depth about the items, which you probably want to read.
I think the main goal of Thornmail was so every playstyle has a way of applying the GW effect. Morellonomicon for AP champs, Mortal Reminder for AD champs and Thornmail for tank/bruisers, which pretty much covers all playstyles. I doubt that there'll be any more items providing this effect or atleast nowhere near in the future considering every champion can build his/her item with GW effect now.
Also I think Thornmail was reworked to help tanks in top lane more against high sustain opponents like Fiora, it's interesting and nice to see a variation of items. Yes it'll be a bit harder to play against a tank with Thornmail as Soraka, but when you're the one playing a tank in another game you'll be like: ahh, thank goodness for this item countering Fiora (as an example).
All in all, I still think Soraka is great and fun, not everyone always builds the counter items and when they do there are ways to play around them.
I still enjoy playing her no matter how many games I've played with her. I just love healing my allies and making enemies think oh this person is dead right now - we can chill now, but nope there's me/Soraka, that keeps healing my allies and not letting them die, and the next moment the enemies die and are like "what the hell die already you're so low where does all that healing come from?" this is exactly what's so great about Soraka, you can't chill until you kill the champion when you're up against a team with Soraka ;)
Maybe that has convinced you to play her again, if not I'm sure you'll eventually get back to her one day to have some good old fun :P
