http://www.infoworld.com/article/3020460/microsoft-windows/banishing-get-windows-10-nagware-isnt-as-easy-as-you-think.html

So, a bit of preface as to why I'm posting this thread: I recently updated my Windows 7 installation (I only do this every couple of months for a variety of reasons) and I found the W10 update nagging me in the notification area. The very same update I uninstalled (KB3035583 in Uninstall a Program -> View Installed Updates) and told Windows update to ignore (they call it "Hide") for future updates.
So I decided to go look up some details to see what was going on.

Here are a few snippets from the article:
"As best I can tell, KB 3035583 was modified, fortified, and re-released nine times in 2015."

"Last October, Windows honcho Terry Myerson promised: "You can specify that you no longer want to receive notifications of the Windows 10 upgrade through the Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 settings pages.""
Nope, no such settings. Microsoft is lying yet again.

"Beginning about a month ago the KB3035583 update started installing a new background task -- beyond the ones previous versions already installed -- that resets the AllowOSUpgrade value to 1 (enabled) twice a day."

And before you ask, no, Microsoft is not providing the option to say "No" when it "asks" the user about updating to W10. The options are literally "Now" and "Later" (with various examples of "Later", some as crazy as "Tonight").
And sometimes it just installs Windows 10 without asking, because **** you.

TL;DR: Microsoft is using just about every dirty trick in the book trying to push users to update to Windows 10. They even install processes that run in the background to re-enable update settings that you disable.

Idk, devs just need to man up and use OpenGL. Radeon is pretty good for me and I heard nvidia's proprietary drivers are good too.

OpenGL has a couple of flaws though and performance is generally worse than on DX.

Yeah AFAIK (and I know little) it isn't pretty but the performance is alright. Then again I can't say I'm running taxing games using OpenGL so I'll take your word for it. Still, I think that most games should be perfectly able to use OpenGL or something built on top of it.

Anyway, I'm also suffering from the upgrade messages but so far they only concern W8.1 (currently on 8.0). It doesn't happen as frequently as on your side, but still multiple times a week.

Huh? I've only gotten them twice, total. Because each time I get them I dedicate like an hour to hunt down all the potential **** and remove it.

It's been like, a week since the update message has popped up for me.

I just kinda click the X in the top right and that seems to satiate it for a while. I've done nothing other than that.

Anything that takes up unnecessary space and runs in the background is a big nono for me. On all my devices (phone, tablet and PC). Especially when it even downloads the W10 update without asking you. That's a ~4GB download, and I'm currently pretty short on space on my SSD.
