1 - What do you think about
2 - Which jungle item is the best for a new Amumu player to buy?
3 - Your example build seems to lack any sort of damage - should I ever buy damage items on Amumu?
I liked your side-note about jungle Amumu from the enemy team's perspective. It's true that whenever I see a jungle Amumu I assume he's starting blue. Which camp is best for Amumu to start at?
+1 so far :)
Cheers,
jhoi
1. Greater mark of magic pen; not particularly strong in my opinion, because I just don't see Amumu's job to be doing damage, overall. The reason I can justify some attack speed to myself is that it saves you health on the first clear and keeps you safer, but all in all, your job is to get good initiates and put your teammates in a position to win. (remember too, your passive gives you some MR shred, so you might already have that box ticked a little bit.) There could be some other opinions on that, that's just mine.
2. I would recommend chilling smite (the blue one) with cinderhulk. Start with talisman for mana. It's the most forgiving route. If you don't quite get enough dmg on a gank, just smite for the kill. It can also give you a slow you need to finish someone if you blew your Q early, which a new Amumu might. I recommend skirmishers only when it's key for keeping you alive if the enemy jungle is particularly skilled at dueling/killing you.
3.In my opinion, no. I think I put that in the second itemization chapter as to why not.
4. great point, I should definitely talk more about that. In general, blue is your best bet, which is why it's so predictable (especially if you're new to Amumu;he's very mana hungry). It's probably advantageous to have your team watch your red when you start blue, but sometimes, in solo queue, they're not too good about that. If the blue side laner is paying attention, type to them to help you get your ward on enemy red. That way, you can possibly start with their red to avoid giving up your red for free, or at least know where they might start so they're less likely to take you by surprise. (As you jungle more, you'll have a clock running in your head for where the enemy jungle should be, based on where they started. Obviously, it's not bullet proof, but you can make a pretty educated guess) Above all, you don't want to fight early, so the second you see an enemy champion, ping everyone back.
