Also, due to Ignite and Electrocute, Lightning Shen's level 2 is among the strongest in the game, and will almost always catch an opponent who is unfamiliar with the build off guard. Most of Lightning Shen's impact on the game relies on him being able to pick up an early kill with a level 2 all-in, which separates the good Lightning Shens from the bad ones. Another key aspect of Lightning Shen is knowing when to ult, which is an entirely different situation from regular Shen. Due to Lightning Shen's role as a hyper-carry, he will need to acquire a lot of gold, mostly through farming and killing enemies. If you use your ult to save an ally, you are wasting precious time which you could be using to increase your income. It is very important that you ONLY ult to steal kills and follow up by taking at least 1 minion wave from them. Most people who play Lightning Shen at an Amateur level try to ult their allies as if they were a regular Shen, causing them to fall behind and get stomped. Your teammates will understand that you need their kills more than they do, and they will let this happen if they are respectable. On a final note, Lightning Shen can do something that most other hyper-carries cannot: innitiate teamfights. While most other hyper-carries like Kog'Maw or Vayne will simply sit back like nerds and let their tanks initiate fights, Lightning Shen is able to effectively engage on enemies by himself. Due to the movement speed from Static Shiv, Triforce, Swiftness boots, and relentless Hunter, he is able to run up to teams with ease and hit the glorious full-team taunt. It is important to note that this is much harder now since Luden's Echo does not provide movement speed. Lightning Shen's extreme presence and engage strength is one of the major factors which contributed to the item's rework, and he still suffers from the change today, despite still being a dominant pick.
