For starters there was one author who admitted to me privately that VPNs were used on his guides for massive amounts of upvotes, but supposedly not by him. That was coming onto 3 months ago now and the fact that it not only was unable to be detected at the time but still wasn't capable of being immediately acted against once he admitted to it happening, is unacceptable to me.
And who knows how many other authors might also be abusing VPNs for upvotes? I know of at least 1-2 other authors that get 10-40 upvotes on demand without posting their guides at all on social media, possibly from privately asking numerous individuals to upvote their guide (still against the rules), but it looks a lot like how the first author's vote count would spike when apparently a VPN was being used to fake votes from real people (and even if it isn't specifically due to a VPN it's still clearly cheating in some form because no one gets that many votes naturally and they never posted their guide on social media either to explain the spike). If they are using VPNs to cheat the voting system, it should be detectable, but it isn't, the people you report this to are as clueless as you are as to whether there was definitively any wrongdoing or not.
Both methods of upvote brigading should be detectable and actionable, even if it's impossible to prove the author was behind it and punish them, at the very least their actions should be capable of being undone so when their cheating gets undone time after time they just won't bother cheating anymore if it proves mostly ineffective.
I've been told the team is working on tools to work against these issues and that makes me happy, but I won't be motivated to continue my work on the site at the very least until the tools are in place, and hopefully I'll find my experience on MOBAFire more satisfying and rewarding of my and other people's efforts when that happens. I don't want MOBAFire to be a competition of who can cheat votes the hardest like the past couple of champion releases have been, as well as the entry of new streamer-authors onto a variety of champion categories.
