Champion Build Guide

Sona guide for low elo

By Genja26
Who I am
I climbed from iron to plat mainly playing support and my second most played being sona so I wanted to share my knowledge of how I got out of the depths of hell on support. Also ignore my shitty english.
Sona 101
Sona is the strongest scaling enchanter in the game and in low elo games last for a long time making her an amazing champion to climb with on support however people think sona is a low agency support who simply does nothing in lane and scales into a beast. This is not the reality sona can have lots of agnecy with champion mastery and knowing limits.
Abilities
Sona's ability create an aura which provide passive benifits to team mates around her for 3 seconds. After using 3 abilities her next auto attack will be empowered and have a different affect based on the last ability used before the auto.

Passive: using abilities stacks her passive to a maximum of 120 stacks, these stacks reduce her cooldowns but when maxxed out they reduce her ultimate cooldown.

Q active: sends out two auto targetting attacks that do damage
q aura: Sona and tagged allied champions deal bonus magic damage on their next attack
q empowered attack: deals extra magic damage

w active: sona and ally champions are granted a shield
w aura: sona heals herself and the most damaged ally champion
w empowered attack: reduce the enemy champions damage dealt for 3 seconds

e active: sona gains move speed for 7 seconds
e aura: ally champions gain move speed for 3 seconds
e empowered attack: reduce move speed on enemy champion for 2 seconds.

ultimate: straight line attack that stuns for 1.5 seconds.
Laning phase
Level 1 you have a strong trade pattern of q into empowered q auto attack on the enemy adc when you can safely get close, if you can't get in auto ranage landing max range q on the enemy adc is good. Your best trading pattern in lane is e to get into range (w if you need a stack for your passive) than q auto however sometimes you will only be able to lane max range q safely.

Your main goal in lane will depend on what the enemy support is playing, if they are playing a ranged/enchanter support champions like lux or lulu your main goal will be to poke back with your q and w to shield your adc when they get hit by an ability or are about too. Feel free to use your q and e pro actively while holding your w to shield your adc from poke.

If your into an engage/hook support your goal is to poke them or the adc with your q and if you can safely q and q empowered auto attack while staying out of their engage range or hook range or behind minions. If the wave is pushed near to their tower you are far less safe in these lanes and will need to hold your w, e abilities and have an empowered auto attack ready. If they engage onto you or your adc, w than w empowered auto attack the adc with your w passive to reduce the damage they deal followed by e to provide move speed to your adc to escape.

If you are getting ganked using your e on the enemy jungler before they engage can give you distance to be able to get away, however if they are already engaged onto you w and w empowered auto attack on the enemy adc or jungler and use your ultiamte to stun them to either win the fight or escape.

If your jungler is about to gank you have your empowered passive auto attack ready and auto attack the enemy adc or support with e passive to slow them to allow your team mates to more easily reach and kill them.
Team fighting
Outside of getting a gank or being ganked fights on sona are about threat assessment and positioning, your goal will be to land qs safely from the back line while using your other abilities to proke your blood song support item and apply your empowered passive auto attack debuffs. Never in any team fight unless your cleaning up kills at the end never use empowered auto q passive it is worthless when compared to the other two. Simple rule if unsure end on w empowered attack passive stacked and use it on someone in your back line or their front line, holding max passive before fights against champions that can engage onto you or assasins allows you to w them to reduce their damage than r them for a stun. If you are verusing champions with low mobility and are meelee using e passive on them will allow your team mates too attack from range and kite them. Always play to live as long as possible in fights while getting off your abilities, you are a carry you just carry through utility. When it comes to your ult a general rule is unless it is hitting 2 or more enemy champions hold it for yourself as a safety tool as it is your main tool for self peeling.
Roaming/ When to ditch your adc
Roaming on support is very strong however often times your adc will just die if you leave them so in low elo roams are alot harder to pull off but if you and your adc have crashed a wave into the enemy tower base before them and run mid and look to see if you can gank anylane that is not too behind (if the enemy laner has 2 more kills than your team mate don't help them). Sona may not have the best roams but you can empowered e passive the enemy to slow them down and r them for a stun to provide a helping hand to your team mate.

Alright sometimes your adc will be really stupid or you inted the lane by trying to win it regaurdless as a support your game is never over if your adc is behind. If your adc has 3 deaths and doesn't have 2 or more kills they are most likely a lost cause for the early and mid game don't be afriad to leave them when void grubes and rift hearld are up. 20 seconds before that objective is up base and ping the objective and run to it hopefully your jungler goes to it and you get the objective or a winning fight.
Pushing the limits while being weak early
This is the hardest part of sona not being an afk healer bot at the start, it requires some pratice and limit testing to know how much you can do on her early game. Sona early game stat wise is weak however you are strong in team fights (4v4s or 5v5s) or fights where you have a man advantage (so 3v2 or 2v1) your main tools for those fights are your r to stun the enemy, e empowered passive auto attack to slow them and w empowered passive auto attack to reduce their damage.
