So what I've found is that while I struggled initially without tear, nowadays I have pretty much exactly just enough mana for every fight without tear.
I think tear is just okay, if excessive, but even if purchased, there's no need to upgrade it to Archangel until the very end, since Orianna Support doesn't make as much use out of the raw AP that much compared to just having utility items.
Due to the specific play style that AD intended his Support Orianna guide, she shouldn't be played as a "Kill Lane" due to her lack of threatening damage. Because you max your E first, the trade-off is the damage your Q would do at the similar levels.
Even if you were to take Ignite and try for a lv 2 all-in with QW and basic attacks plus Ignite, there aren't very many scenarios where that would be successful. And even then, you would be stuck with Ignite for the rest of the game.
Exhaust is better than Ignite for Support Orianna because it maintains relevancy at all stages of the game.
