Hard Elo wipe = Everyone is reset to 1200 Elo; hits everyone.
Soft Elo wipe = Everyone's Elo is normalized and rolled closer to 1200 Elo; effects very low and very high Elo players the most
I know Riot presented both options as possible some time ago, but I don't know if they picked one yet. Soft Elo reset seems to be the most popular though.
And just in case anybody didn't know, keeping your losses and wins around the same will give you a slightly above average ELO of 1350 I believe.
ELO reset to 1200 is going to kill a lot of people. The recently higher ranked people are going to go back up very fast and the recently low ranked people are going to go down very fast. It's like putting a snake in a room with a mongoose. That snake is ****ed...at least until they are no longer in the same room. And then the snakes will fight the snakes while the mongoose fights the mongoose. All is intended to even out eventually the way it's supposed to be.
But I like the Season 1/2 separate tabs idea.
