I didn't miss the point, you simply didn't think far enough.
Ofc I can put durable champs mid with success in the mid lane, but I would always think of the impact this has, since Tanks are far from being able to carry as hard as AP carrys and mid has been and always will be THE carry lane.

Mid has always been the "first to 6" lane.
Which is why people used to take the carries with good ultimates there.
Now they put AP carries, and USUALLY burst casters in middle lane.
People like Annie, Kassadin, Brand, and Gragas.

Tankers usually have a ton of CCs, and only GOOD tanks or tanky dps/AP tanks should go mid for tanky people. After all, their main purpose is to annoy the **** out of their opponent instead of farming, which means your other tank/supports must farm less. Its good in the situation where no one needs farm, besides up to 2 people.
Yes Mord usually goes tank after a single revolver. Trollfacing me doesn't work :) However, Mord Tanks aren't good anyway, with practically 0 GOOD CCs (Snare/Stun/Taunt/Fear). He just has damage, which makes it better if he goes pure AP or AP tank anyway.

Galio does great damage early -.- I don't know why, but Galio seems like the best sort of tank, having mass taunt, slow, speed up and shield. Thornmail makes him anti-carries, and MR builds him to be a beast damager even w/o AP. Every single Galio tortures badly when used right ._.
