Shaco's pretty terrible in lane (unless maybe you do some Blitzcrank + Shaco bush camping combo and they keep falling for it), and also fairly hard to play.

AD Shaco's boxes are used for wards. Him himself is used for backdooring.
AP Shaco's boxes are used for killing everything! Him himself is used for laying them.
Your job is just to make the other team 100% paranoid, 100% of the time.

Shaco has a high skill cap, but his skill set isn't going to do you any favors. He's a squishy assassin. Champs that do his job better? Talon/Akali instantly come to mind.

U can always try and watch replays, or from what ive seen, a lot of shacos jungle and come out for the kills. one thing i saw was instantly box the blue buff constantly then kill it for the buff and start jungling. so either look up replays or look up jungle guides for him. Thats my suggestion anyways.

There's your problem!
Shaco's a jungler, through and through. If he's good he can destroy an enemy jungler and his ganks are some of the best in the game.
Oh, and he's also really hard to play. Practice makes perfect!

a) A Jungler. That means you should be jungling with him, although laning is possible as AP Shaco.
b) Very hard to play. He is very squishy and is hard to place in a teamfight unless he's really fed.
For further information regarding Shaco, I recommend you to take a look at our high rated Shaco guides, they are pretty good.
Please try jungling in a custom before you go in a "real" game.
