Hey all, this is my first attempt at a fan fiction, hope you like it. I tried my hardest to remain true to the lore, though some characters are a little different than the lore has them to be. Any feedback is welcomed.

The Mummy Boy's Search for Answers

In the vast and arid Shurima Desert wanders a small, yet distinct boy. Wrapped in bandages for as long as he can remember, this little mummy boy woke up lifeless, and with no knowledge of his past. He knew at the pit of his stomach that his parents were somewhere, and sadness overcame all his emotions every time he thought about them, even though he has no memory of them. The little mummy boy is traversing through the desert hoping to find clues of his parents existence. Traveling the vast desert is no easy task for this boy, with harsh dry winds and thick sand up to his knees, even this boy was having second thoughts. With nothing to go back too, the mummy child kept going, hoping for answers.

The boy’s sadness could be felt from miles away, and was so powerful that not even the toughest and most hungry creatures of the desert could have a cruel enough heart turn him into a quick lunch. Every creature that saw the boy avoided him, in fear that they too would be overcome with sadness. As night fell, the boy would sleep under whatever shelter he could find, only to have created a small puddle of tears where he had slept. As the days came and went, he was starting to believe that he would never find his way out of the desert.

But then, the mummy had a spark of hope, as he saw a patch of brown in the distance. He began to run as fast as his little legs would let him towards the object, hoping it would be some king of clue to his existence. As he got closer, the object became much vaster, coving the desert edge to edge. It was not an object at all. The mummy boy had finally made it to the edge of the desert and was entering a new land unknown to him.

Entering this strange land, the boy realized that it was not much different that the desert he had come from. The land was mostly dead, though it was a dry dirt rather than sand. There were few creatures there and what little could be found were dead, and Rotten trees dotted the terrain in no orderly fashion. The mummy walking through this land came across a dirty puddle of water which would have been a treasure for someone who had just traversed the desert on foot, but the boy had no need for it. He knows the value of water, but has never been able to taste its refreshing flavor.

The land was vast and seeming never ending for the mummy,he was becoming tired and needed to rest. Realizing he had yet another night to spend alone and without shelter, he was once again overcome with sadness. This time however, his tears were acknowledged by another entity. Atop a small hill stood a man who called to the boy. The little mummy looked up, wiping tears out of his eyes using his bandages so he could see clearly. The man was very strange to the boy, he was mostly bald with little hairs on his head, had glowing yellow eyes and bandages around his mouth. The strange man carried a large bottle with a purple fizzing substance contained within it. The man began to walk slowly down to the mummy child.

“What’s wrong child? Why are you crying like that?” The boy was in shock as he had never been talked too by anyone since his death. “I… I...” The boy was scared, and had trouble speaking. “A little child like you should not be out here by himself, these lands are very dangerous. Are you lost?” The boy slowly nodded. “I’m looking for my parents.” The man’s eyes widened, “Oh, I am sorry to hear that. Do you know where they went?” The boy replied, ready to burst into tears once again, “No”. “It is getting dark, why don’t you stay at my place for the night, it’s not too far from here, and we can look for your parents in the morning, ok?” The mummy, unsure of how to respond, nodded slowly. As they began to walk, the man expressed a quick, yet evil, smirk.

Both remained quiet for a majority of the walk, with the man only occasionally stopping to collect some herbs he finds along the way, eventually coming up to their location, a small and run-down watchtower. The bricks were covered in cracks, with many missing stones, vines covering one side. Upon entering, the little boy felt a strange and spine tingling chill that he has never felt before. It was almost like the place had a spiritual entity that was ticking the boys bones. The place did not feel right, but in his situation, any shelter was appreciated.

Inside the tower was a bit nicer than outside, a small table and two chairs sits in the middle of the room, with several lanterns in each corner providing just enough light to get by. In the far corner there lied a table with several laboratory beakers of assorted colors. The boy was intrigued, and started to stare at the different mixtures on the table, analyzing each ones texture, some fizzy, some gassy, it was stuff he has never seen before. “What is in these vials?” the boy asked, as he was reaching to touch one. “Don’t touch that!” the man quickly pushed the kid out of the way. “This stuff is very, very delicate, you are not to ever touch anything on this table, do you understand?!”

After being shoved and yelled at, the child began to cry, a small cry but a noticeable one. The men kneeled down to the boy’s level, and pat him on the shoulder. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have yelled like that, you didn’t know better” The man began to walk him over to his table, and pulled out a chair for him. “Here, take a seat. Are you hungry?” The boy shook his head, knowing he had no use for food.“How about a drink?” The boy shook his head again. The man began to prepare a small meal for himself as the boy just sat at the table, looking at his thumbs.

“My name’s Singed” he said while preparing his meal, “what’s your name?” The mummy looked down, going deep into thought. He didn’t know his name, and has no recollection of it from his past. “I… I don’t know.” “You don’t know your name?” Singed said as he sat down at the table. He began to observe the peculiar boy, looking at his bandaged wrapped fingers, and his large eyes. It certainly wasn’t the strangest creature Singed has seen, but Singed knew this boy was different. “That’s strange, what did your parents call you?” The thought of his parents put the mummy child into a pout, “I don’t remember my parents, they have been gone for so long…”

Realizing the child was crying, Singed quickly tried to remedy the situation. “Shhh, don’t cry little one. Here, I got something for you.” Singed stood up and walked over to his table of vials and grabbed a bottle. This bottle was not like the others, it was much larger and was the one the man had been carrying on his back. Singed then poured a little bit of the mixture into a cup, during the process expressing a subtle smile.

Singed took the cup over to the table and set it in front of the boy. “Here, drink this, it will make you feel better” Wiping his nose on his arm, the boy noticed the drink was not normal. “What is this?” “Medication, it will make you feel better.” The boy stared at the drink, it was a strange color, almost indescribable, a faint aroma poured out of the cup, it wasn’t pleasing, but had a strange attractive quality. Simply smelling it, he began to feel different.

“I don’t need it” the mummy said in soft voice. “Drink it, you do need it!” Singed voice got much harsher, and the boy could feel that Singed was angry. In fear, the boy got off his chair and started to back away from Singed. “Where do you think you are going? You have to have your medicine!” Singed yelled as he started to follow the boy. “Drink it now!” “No!” With anger, Singed grabbed the boy and tossed him over his shoulders, causing him to hit the behind him. Having the child cornered, singed grabbed the drink and smashing it against the wall near the boy. A little bit of the mixture has splashed on the boy, causing a small burning sensation to fill his body, and the boy’s cries filled the room. “Oh shut up!” yelled Singed, as he grabbed his bottle.

Singed, with the child trapped in a corner, opened his bottle and was ready to pour it over the kids head. The child’s cries got louder as he became scared, staring at the top of the bottle waiting for the brew to consume him. When he thought everything was over, the walls adjacent to the boy smashed in, and through the rubble appeared a giant bear. The bear charged in, and immediately knocked Singed away from the boy. The bear had singed cornered, but knew he would not win in a direct fight. A second figure appeared through the dust, a little girl. She ran to the boy as fast as she could, helping him stand up. “Come on, we have to get you out of here.”

They both ran over the rubble and out into the wilderness, running as fast as they could, only to look back to make sure they weren’t being followed. The pain from the brew was becoming unbearable to the boy, as his muscles were starting to give out. Despite this, they kept running, knowing the farther they got from Singed, the safer they would be. Exhausted, they both stopped to catch their breath, unfortunately for the boy, stopping was all it took for his muscles to fully give out, as he fell to the floor, and everything went dark.

The boy woke up to the sight of a bright yellow roof and the smell of strawberries. Rubbing his eyes to give them time to adjust to the light, he had realized that he was in a tent covered in blankets. He was both conferrable and curious at the same time, not sure where exactly he was. Sitting up he could see a small pink backpack, inside sat a stuffed animal that somewhat resembled a bear. The boy then unzipped the opening to the tent, peering out to find several trees, and a small log that was lying near what appeared to resemble an extinguished fire.

“I was wondering when you would wake up” her words startled the boy as his head quickly turned to her direction, “come on out, I got you something.” He stepped out of the tent cautiously, sitting on a lot right outside the entrance. The young girl brought him a small bag of strawberries, setting it right on his lap. “I picked them myself, hope you like them.” He did not want to hurt the girls feelings, so despite not being able to taste the flavor of the strawberries, he ate them anyway. “My name is Annie” the girl said, her voice was soft, like music to the boys ears.

The boy responded to her “Annie, that’s such a nice name”. It was the first time he had a good look at her. Her eyes glowed the brightest emerald green, her hair the boldest red he had ever seen. Her cheeks, smooth, and fill of life, her voice just the right pitch to sooth his mind. Just looking at her made him feel a strange fizzy feeling at the pit of his stomach. He didn’t know what the feeling was, but he liked it. “Thanks for saving me.”

“Singed is not the guy you want to mess with, you’re lucky I can when I did, another second and you would have been a goner.” “What does that guy do anyway? What did he want with me?” Annie let out a small sigh “He is always working on new types of poisons, almost like he is obsessed with them. Because of this, he is constantly looking for new creatures to test the poisons on, you almost became his next victim.” The boy looked at Annie very closely “But why did you risk your life to save me?” “I heard your cries from quite a distance, I went over to the tower and began to observe. The second I saw you, I knew you were different. Once we knew you were in danger, Tibbers and I got in there as quickly as possible.” The boy was puzzled “Tibbers? Was the bear yours?” “Yup, Tibbers is my guardian. He has protected me the day I captured him”

“Do you have a name?” Annie asked the boy. He became very embarrassed about admitting he had no name. “I… I don’t know my name.” The girl seemed shocked, sitting down adjacent to him, turning her head sideways as she observed him closely, her eyes focusing on his. “How do you not know your own name?” Embarrassed, he replied “I don’t remember my past, I woke up with no memories.” The boy stood up, looking at the sky “I came here looking for my parents.” The girl continued to stare at him, but felt bad for the boy.

“So you have no memories, and are wandering the world looking for your parents? How are you going to find them if you don’t even know your own name?” The boy stared at the ground, small tears filled his eyes “I don’t know” he responded, quietly. The idea has never crossed his mind before. If he does not know who he is, how can he possible know who his parents are? Annie stood up, grabbed a small towel, and wiped the tears from his eyes. ”Don’t cry, I can help you find your parents.” The boy responded in a quiet sad tone, “You think so?” “Sure, I can take you to Bandle city, which would be a good place to start looking.” The boy elicited a small smile, “Thank you.”

The sun was starting to set, it was much too late to start a journey. “It’s getting late, we should camp out for the night and head to Bandle city in the morning.” The boy’s emotions were conflicted, he wanted desperately to continue looking for his parents, but he also wanted to spend more time with Annie. “Let’s start a fire,” the boy suggested. “Great idea” Annie responded, as she grabbed some wood. Neither was good at starting a fire, but working together, they eventually got one going.

Later that night the boy was lying down in the tent, staring at the ceiling. The tent was small, just large enough for the two to fit comfortably. Annie was already fast asleep, holding her stuffed animal between her arms. The boy could not sleep, as his thoughts refused to let him. He kept thinking what it would be like to finally meet his parents again, to finally know his own name. He also kept thinking about Annie, he didn’t know why, but he liked her more than anything in the world despite just meeting her. Eventually, late into the night the sound of the wind peacefully blowing across the top of the tent put the boy to sleep.

The next morning, Annie and the Mummy boy packed up the tent, and put it into Annie’s backpack. The two worked together to pick some berries off a nearby bush for breakfast, making sure to get extra for their trip. Both children were getting along very well, so well it was as if they had known each other for many years. “You ready to find your parents Mummy boy?” The boy nodded. As their journey began, Annie grabbed the boy's hand, refusing to let go.

I have always wondered about why Amumu and Annie are classified as Yordles. Yes they are Yordle sized, but I am pretty sure that they are still children. Human Children.

The lore says he is, he is also a child. At the end of the day I treated both characters as children.
