Mechanical keyboards are definitely the go.
I recently bought a Thermaltake eSports Meka G1 and it is awesome, absolutely love it and couldn't ever go back to non mech again.
There's heaps and heaps of discussion about which sort of mech KB's have the best switches and you can drive yourself crazy trying to work out what is best so my advice is to make sure you try them first to get one that feels right to you and from there you will never look back.
Good luck and let us know what you end up getting.

I would have to agree with Atarios and Vavena, the mechanical keyboards have a much nicer feel to them. Like Snookemz said the type of switch determines the feel of the keyboard. I would probably go with MX Cherry Blues for the feedback and that great click clack sound.
Can someone tell me what a mechanical KB really is? :P
