Trying to learn from just looking at how they used things (gradients, blending the render into the background, etc). Guess that's what's made it seem like a long progress for me, but at least I have my own originality. Not saying you don't... Mintberry's sig came out great. Checked out that site and it looks pretty nice. I'll probably glance at it for inspiration if nothing else. :) Thanks bud, and good luck with whatever you decide to do in college.
