The title says differently than what they were designed for.
As far as I know,
Ezreal was designed for AP back when Essence Flux healed.
Also, I played AD Kennen back when I was liek level 18 :o Never knew it was gonna be viable.

Yeah what I believe it is is that anybody with 2 decent AP ratios can be put as an AP mid (looking at AP Janna) or anybody with a hit modifier can be played as an AD.

I like to play Kassadin AD. Terrible early game(Even worse than AP kass) but he does really well later on.

I usually play Kayle in the jungle. Fast clear speed, decent ganks, good kiting, good utility, good late game. I hardly ever see Kayle, so I can't really say if it's uncommon to play her in the jungle, but I haven't met any other jungling Kayles at least.
