They aren't attacking what they can't see, so maybe that time with Teemo there was already a vision ward around or some of your minions activated the box while you were close, resulting in you being feared alongside with them.

They get activated when stuff they can see gets close and then also only atk everything in they can see. Means if something runs into a box and a teemo gets feard he will lose his stealth and the box can kill him. If Eve gets feard she will stay stealth till the skill runs out so she won't be atk.
