Hi everyone, I have a favor to ask.

My current computer is a ****py laptop, that is absolutely aweful. I want a desktop for myself, and I want it to be a good one. I want a custom computer, because I know it is much more cost efficient, and I will get a better computer for less money.

The problem with this, is that I've never done this before, and am likely to screw up in some way.

So, therefore, I'm asking you mobafire, to build an optimal computer for me. I simply want to know which parts I should order, I'm not asking anyone to literally build me a desktop and ship it to me.

It should be a good computer, with the ability to run anything I want, and have the potential to last me, so I don't have to do this again 3 years from now. However, it should also be cost efficient, I don't want to pay loads of extra money for minor specs, that won't really make much of a difference.

I'm looking to spend roughly between $800-1000ish, though that can very depending on whether or not I can get a better deal if I'm willing to pay a bit more.

To anyone willing to help, I thank you for your time, and have a nice day :)

BTW, I do not already have anything I need, everything needs to be bought from scratch, including a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, in case you were wondering.

Thanks again for your time.

Any site that you want to buy from? Because prices are pretty different in other countries and it would be quite tough to give you approximate price since I don't know best prices in USA.

800-1000$ won't get u very far, even more so if u don't have keyboard+mouse etc. If ur not wanting to upgrade again for 3 years or so u might need to invest more money in. Probably closer to 2000$.
Thanks to JEFFY40HANDS for the awesome sig:D

I know people who have gotten decent computers for like $400 O.o

I want more than a decent computer, however, I don't want an insane god tier computer either.

Are you looking to build one, or to buy a pre-built?

I got distracted building one for you :s

pcpartpicker.com is a good resource.

Look for Good Ratings.

I personally think in a $1000 range, you should base your build around a i5 2500(k) and a GTX 480/Hd 6970x2 setup.

I personally recommend Kingston memory, and 8gb is a good size for a $1000 project.

A bit overboard, $1000.

You're going to have to cut mainly in the Mobo/PSU/Case area in order to slim things down.

I really recommend the i5 2500 or 2500k if possible, it's really cost effective.

Edit: /r/buildapc is a great resource as well.
