Tension was high today as fans watched their favorite teams battle it out for the four spots to go to this summer’s League of Legends competition at Dreamhack. There will be a total of $40,000 in the prize purse for this competition courtesy of MSI and SteelSeries. Out of the 256 teams that entered the online qualifiers the final four that will be guaranteed spots at Dreamhack were decided (in seed order): Absolute Legends, Moscow 5, exHCL, and Fnatic. If your favorite team didn’t make it be sure to watch the BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) competition June 16th for the other four teams that will compete in Summer 2012 Dreamhack!

CLG and Fragzone were knocked out of the competition after their first two matchups. In the winner’s bracket Moscow 5 won against exHCL while Absolute Legends defeated Team “Teamless.” Absolute Legends then duked it out against Moscow 5 and emerged victorious, placing them at seed 1 and Moscow 5 at seed 2. Meanwhile in the loser’s bracket, Fnatic knocked out Team “Teamless” and exHCL knocked out Navus Vincere. Fnatic and exHCL then fought for seed 3, with exHCL winning the spot.

Out of the games I watched I greatly enjoyed Fnatic’s team compositions and playstyle. In game 2 of Fnatic vs. Team “Teamless” Fnatic won using a team composition with great global presence and early ganking. Team Fnatic sported Olaf top, Twisted Fate mid, Nautilus jungle with Ashe and Soraka bottom. This composition let them dominate early game having a 7-1 lead. You could witness Nautilus’s ganking power as he was 5/0/4 at 20 min into the game. Between Nautilus and Twisted Fate they kept the enemy Jax behind on top lane, and ensured bottom lane’s success. Team “Teamless” did not give up without a fight though; they grabbed baron at 23min and won the teamfight disputing it. However, this turn in power did not last long with Fnatic’s retaliation of a won teamfight and two dead inhibitors.

For the final game of Fnatic vs. exHCL there wasn’t much at stake since both teams were already guaranteed spots at Dreamhack, so the result was a very fun and fast paced game. Between jungle invades, tower dives, and constant disputes the games score was 12 – 12 at 14min; this is very unusual to see in tournament play. If the game wasn’t amusing enough Fnatic Cyanide asked exHCL to “report Shushei for afk” as he sat still in bot lane for an extended period. xPeke chimed in with “he says he’s lagging, but I hear his dog barking in the background, sure sure.” Once Shushei returned he proceeded to die to 1337random which of course brought out some “Shushei so good” and other friendly jabs from his team. Fnatic surrendered at 23 min with the score at 21-32. This was the most fun game I’ve watched in a long time.

Be sure to tune in for Dreamhack June 16-18th!

Yes, though I think CLG's team is technically clg.eu.

They may try to get back in by winning the BYOC tournament, though they have not announced if they intend to or not.

Dignitas didn't make it to the finals at all, and you're right about SK. I hope these teams all try to get back in by participating in the BYOC tourney though. :)
