Last weekend Major League Gaming shattered the record for most concurrent stream viewers for their Spring Championships at Anaheim California. The previous record was 241,000 at Providence 2011. MLG’s peak concurrent stream viewers hit 437,000, almost twice as much as the previous record. This amazing leap in viewership shows how far e-sports has come, and how fast it’s expanding. Not long ago it would’ve been unheard of to make a living off of playing or talking about videogames, and now it has become a common occurrence.
Part of the reason League of Legends is so popular is because of how much stock they put into their e-sports scene. This season they are putting $5,000,000 into tournaments and it is completely worth it for how much interest it generates for the game. I am eager to see the attendance at the Season 2 finals, hopefully they can break some records themselves!
Here’s the statistics from MLG’s Spring Championships:
• More than 4.7 million unique online viewers over the weekend
• More than 2.2 million unique online viewers on Championship Sunday
• 437,000 peak concurrent online viewers
• More than 5.4 million hours of video consumed
• More than 20,000 in-person spectators

I'm glad to see that e-sport wins a huge population the last years. It's funny to see how many peoples want to see a league of legends game much more as to look the UEFA EURO in Poland. x'D
