How do you do this? I've been wanting to try stuff like this for a while but have no idea how to.

/facepalm I forgot about those adjustments... I tried doing something like that in Illustrator with the live trace feature, didn't work too well though. I'll have to give it a try soon.

No you are wrong...

You do it with this:

Image-> Adjustments -> Threshold

Then you soften it etc.

Here is a tutorial for this:

you can do the exact same thing with image -> adjustments -> levels as well. using levels also lets you choose if you want to include some shades of gray which IMO makes it look nicer.

Don't be so quick to accuse other people of being wrong if you don't know what they're talking about

Threshold will make it only : Black and white. So you are able to copy it more easy, in my case the black part.

With levels you first have to make it black and white with a saturation, after that you have to find the right level on the level adjustment layer. It is much more work to get a good result.

Levels is used for adjusting Black, white and gray tints in colored pictures on different levels. Threshold is to automatically make a picture black and white, photoshop does this by making all the dark colours black and all the light colours white. Maybe you should learn what you are talking about because you probably don't now the difference.

With just levels you can get THE EXACT SAME result as treshold. They use THE EXACT SAME MECHANIC. However, with levels you can give it different shades of grey if you want. Also, with levels you only need to adjust one parametre if you want it to be just black and white. You need to do that with treshold as well. There's absolutely no difference between the two if all you want is black and white. Anyone who knows how to use levels will never use treshold. It's simply a much better tool.

As with many things, there are multiple ways to achieve the same results. LIke Canoas has said, Levels will allow you to do more, but threshold is easier/quicker to do for someone that is not used to levels. (I believe)
