fizz is very strong and both ways work rly well(i prefer him ap)
The main drawback is, if he fights somebody he goes allin, so if he cant kill the opponent before backup comes, he is pretty screwed.
Apart from that he needs to land his ultimate to be effective and if he cant do that, he doesnt do much
I play him midlane to counter weak/squishy lanes and snowball the game. Imo anivia is not even that bad against him because her auto attackrange is 600 and that outranges most of the things fizz can do.
If you find yourself having trouble against a fizz, try harassing the **** out of him before lvl3
