Views: 908 Supports that are good?

So I love playing support and i have played Taric, Soraka, and a little of kayle support (which I do not like that much). But i just played Janna and i wasn't very good but i don't understand her support i mean she can protect team and slow enemies and her whirlwind can knock up but her only true heal is her Ult. To me it doesn't seem a good support maybe i haven't played her enough or just don't know what I am doing as Janna but it was a thought.
(All champions can be played as support, you just have to kind of abuse their kits to make the most of your gold.)
Wow. Just wow. No comment.
Good harassers: Sona, Nunu & Willump, Lux, Zyra
Good defenders: Janna, Soraka, Lulu
There are a few other champions that could be considered viable supports, but imo these are the cream of the crop.
Supports are supposed to do the most they can with the least gold possible.
Good supports have good harass potential, cc, or can sustain/protect their lane partner.
If your character doesn't have any skills, or can't auto attack, then you are playing a bad support champion. (All champions can be played as support, you just have to kind of abuse their kits to make the most of your gold.)
what are you talking about lol
supports get gold from assists and gold per 10. if your lane is doing good and you and your carry get fed with kills and assists you can end up having more gold than the enemy ap carry
Janna is good because of many things. She can protect the carry early game with her shield, slow, knockback and knockup (basically her entire kit), and she can play offensively too. The shield grants up to 50 attack damage to the allied champion who is shielded - the carry in early game, and so he deals a lot more damage and can trade better with the other carry, it also helps him with last hitting.
As far as other supports, it depends on your playstyle. If you prefer more passive lanes you can play Soraka, which is the most passive of the supports.
You can take care of your ad but there's little to no kill potential, depending on the carry.
Sona, Alistar and Taric aren't really passive, but if you max their heals they can be played passively as well. But if you do, you're not using them the way you should be, and you're not using them to their full potential.
Alistar and Taric, along with Blitzcrank and Leona are very aggressive supports. If you play aggressive supports, you should go with a bursty/aggressive ad carry and just kill everything in laning phase, and then proceed to kill stuff in mid and late game :P
For more sustained and drawn-out encounters, I prefer Sona or Taric.
In addition, there are supports that can become full-blown secondary AP carries, like Lux or Orianna who don't do as much damage as full APs, but have a good amount of CCs along with being able to secure kills.

Kayle is indeed pretty weak as a support. She's usually played top lane as an AD carry and sometimes jungle.
Some other standard supports are...
Leona and Alistar are both fun aggressive supports that have a lot of CC and therefore can control the lane and teamfight phases pretty well. Both do a fair amount of damage and Alistar has a good sustain move with his heal.
Sona is a good support for poke lanes as long as she can stay safe (she has no escapes and is very squishy). She does some of the best damage of any support (taric has better burst though) and she has an aoe stun for an ultimate that can turn the tides of a fight.
Blitzcrank is a great support for solo queue, and for aggressive lanes. Make sure to only play him with ADs that benefit from bringing the enemy closer to them like Graves.
I also like Lulu though she's not very standard. She can make her AD almost impossible to kill with her critter spell and her ultimate that's on a pretty short cooldown. I think she's the support that can make the lane safest so far as ensuring the AD won't die.
Alternatively I suggest trying Leona if you want some more aggression, or Alistar :3
Nunu & Willump, [soraka and Lulu are other good buys.
