Android 4.2 and an LG Nexus device(presumably being released with Android 4.2, but it'll get the update instantly when it's released otherwise, that's what Nexus phones are for :) ) are rumored to launch shortly after the event Google is holding the 29th of October.

The most interesting feature to be introduced in 4.2 so far looks to be the inclusion of quick settings. You know those buttons that you control Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS with in the pull-down notifications menu. Those will now be in the default Android, and according to me, they won't be as much in the way as they are on Samsung/HTC/Whatever phones since they won't be visible instantly in the pull-down menu. ME LIKES!
A video of where "quick-settings" will be (this is a beta version of Android 4.2):

There's been talk about 4.2 having "project roadrunner" that is supposed to increase battery times, but that has not been confirmed yet, unlike the quick settings.

For Android 4.2 personally I would love it if they made the navigation buttons at the bottom of the screen (Home, Back, etc) hide automatically when using fullscreen apps, being able to "pull" them back up when you need them, so that you get more screen space for movies and such.
As of right now the icons turn into dots in fullscreen, which is good, but it would be awesome if they added the hiding feature :)

I just got Android 4.1.2 on my Nexus S and noticed a few small bugfixes and optimized things. Images for bookmarks and other things load faster now. And they reduced the total RAM eaten by Android to ~190MB! Love it!
For those of you with Android 4.1; try the default browser with "quick controls", you'll LOVE it. (Settings->Labs->Quick Controls)

Now, the LG Nexus. It's the next in the Nexus series, having all the latest cutting edge hardware(quad core 1.5GHz, Adreno 320, 2GB RAM).
There are some pictures here if you wanna have a look:

It looks pretty decent, but I really don't like the unnecessary space at the top and bottom.

There's also talk about there being more Nexus devices in the works, with many different manufacturers. We might see Nexus devices from HTC, Samsung, Motorola, Sony and more soon if we're lucky :)

^You might wanna get a phone that isn't operator locked. Because operators have a record of failing miserably with "permitting" Android updates..

Google will probably be selling that badboy in their online store, "Play Store", like they are doing with the Galaxy Nexus right now.

Here's what's being said about multiple Nexus devices and Google selling them directly:
Quoted:
Google Inc. is shifting its strategy for its Android mobile operating system, in a bid to create a united front with smartphone and tablet makers to take on rivals like Apple Inc. and prevent wireless carriers from controlling the devices.

Google plans to give multiple mobile-device makers early access to new releases of Android and to sell those devices directly to consumers. Now Google will work with as many as five manufacturers at a time to create a portfolio of ‘Nexus’ lead devices that include smartphones and tablets.

I hope Android 4.2 still gets out on schedule.

They were gonna host the event at the gray marker:

Oh, lol. My sister had one of those (typical girl phone >:D), it was pretty decent at its' time. 3 years ago that is :P

Just make sure you get a Nexus phone if you want a new one(unless you plan to flash a ROM). Android updates are extremely important for your overall experience and waiting 2-6months for updates from your manufacturer (HTC among others) is just a huge pain in the ***.
Also try make sure that it's not carrier-locked, as I hear that some carriers are ******ed when it comes to updates.

Honestly, just install a custom ROM. That way you can choose the phone you want and you don't have to pay extra for unlocked ones.

Also, why do you keep making new android topics? Just use one

This is about new phones and Android 4.2.

The other one is about phone design.

I think the topics are different enough to warrant different threads.
