So before we start, lets get this out of the way: I am not an expert Riven player. I have maybe about 20 games with her and most were back during early S2.

Anyway, my main jungler I play is Volibear. And with the S3 changes, I find the jungle a lot easier and faster. Since I use to jungle with Riven in early S2, I wanted to give her a try in the new jungle since I thought it couldn't be much different. . . . I was executed - then fell levels behind and eventually was nothing more than dead weight resulting in a loss. It was pretty embarassing.

Now I'm not that good at Riven, but when I played her the odd time in S2, I did fine. What happened? What did I do wrong? Or is Riven just not jungle quality anymore?

Kind of interested to see what a skilled Riven player has to say. Because the game I played was brutal.

In order to determine an answer to any of your questions you need to provide more details.
Runes?
Masteries?
Items?
What skill did you start with?
What was your skilling order?
What was your jungle route?

My runes were nothing special - Flat Arm. Pen marks and Quints, Flat Armor Seals and M. Rest Glyphs.

Im still too poor to afford a full jungle set I don't do it that often. That, and those runes have always worked for me in the past.

My masteries I ran defensive. Taking a few points in offense, and a lot of jungle related points in defense. (Much the same as my old jungle masteries)

Items I started with a machette and 5 pots. (similar to the older, Cloth, 5 pots start)

Skill I started with Q. And went Wolfs, then Blue since I tried Wraiths, Red in a bot game earlier and it didn't seem to work well.

Yeah I was executed. And it was embarrassing XD

Change Armor Pen runes to Flat AD.

Start Wraiths > Red.

Gank the closest lane, or blow up the enemy jungler.

What I learned from Stonewall :P

Flat AD is something Ive been willing to get here once I get 5K IP - Since A. Pen runes are so much lower now.

Asides from that - I really don't think Riven can jungle anymore. I was ruined when I tried and I didn't play any different than I did in S2. Oh well. guess I'll just stick Solo Top with her.

I tried Riven's jungle in a custom game. Without help, I did Wraiths > Red > Wolves > Wraiths > Blue, then picked up Madred's Razor. From there, I was barely even losing HP except on the buffs.

I had AD reds, armor yellows, MR/lvl blues, and MS quints, 10/20/0 masteries, and started Machete + 5 pots. I skilled QEQWQR, which was probably not ideal but doesn't seem to have mattered much. I nearly died a couple of times on the first clear, but other than that it wasn't terribly difficult. I imagine that the jungle would be even easier with other quints.

So... I believe that the most probable difference is that you started at wolves instead of wraiths. Those wolves hit pretty hard, at level 1, and would make doing blue much harder afterward.

Hm you seem to be right. I did a custom game and tried that route, and it seems to work better. . . but still. She gets VERY hurt. (Just asking for a free kill from counter jungling)

But yes once you get the Razor, things are a piece of cake. It's just those first 4 levels that are brutal.

Riven HAS to snowball or she gets nothing from jungle, jungle is nerfed pre-12 min (i think) so you can't do sht without getting kills due to her item dependance
