Playing Shadow, wanted to go for Dual Wield Elemental damage (dunno if Elemental damage could crit though).

But got into act 2 rather fast.... games not THAT long before you start anew with a higher difficulty, isnt it?

nope. 3 acts, each one slightly longer than the previous one

I'm currently playing a level 67 witch, still in hardcore for now. Really enjoying the game so far but want some people to play with or at least talk to while grinding

Is the game worth checking out if you hate grinding?
(I do, which is why I've never gotten into MMOs)

grinding before end game isn't really necessary, but it's adviced to progress in a safer manner (assuming you'd play on hardcore) and even if you do have to grind a couple of levels here and there the game does a couple of things to make it a little more interesting and to make it feel a little less like grinding.
For example everytime you reset an area the map layout will be different, the mobs spawns will be different, there will be different rare mobs with different properties, etc.

End game grinding is done through a map system. In the final act of the last difficulty level you'll start getting map drops. You can use these when you complete the final act and it will basically spawn a map based on what kind of map you got. You can modify these maps by adding/changing its properties meaning that every map will be completely different.

so while there is a lot of grinding in the game, the game does a good job of making it more interesting. I personally also hate grinding a lot, but so far it hasn't bothered me at all. So yeah, even if you hate grinding I think this game is worth checking out.

To be fair:

You have to grind a lot thanks to the skill system.

Skills are gained by adding gems to your equipment, every gem gives you a skill or, in the right socket, supporst another.

But to upgrade those skill gems you need
a) enough points in the right attribute and
b) kill a heckload of mobs.

But oh well, I'm not far enough into the game for that, guess you don't need to pay attention to leveling your gems specifically if you just play the game.

nope. grind to get gems, grind to upgrade gems.

skills only come from gems, so you won't have hardly any skills at start. i loved playing till like level 10 and only having one gem.

the skill tree has a small handful of meaningful choices, but most of those are hidden deep in the tree behind several +5 to stat x skills.
