Generally, the way it works is that the matchmaking system matches you with people whose elo average is about the same average as you and your buddy.
The system ensures that the average ELO between your team and the opposing team are pretty equal. With that in mind, in your example, the person in diamond will likely be the 1st pick, and the 2-4th pick will likely be gold-silver division, since the elo averages for gold-silver is about 1450, which is kind of in between the diamond elo and bronze elo.

I know how the normal matchmaking system works, but I wonder how does the duo matchmaking work?
I'll give you an example, what if someone from Diamond division goes in a duo with someone from the Bronze division. Who will they be paired with and from what division will the opponents be?
