I'm currently level 25 and absolutely loving LoL. I've played on and off for quite some time, but just recently wanted to get more serious with it. Though, I could probably use some tips.

From what I see when I play, maybe I just can't multitask for ****, but I feel like I have a hard time with map awareness. Or maybe I'm just trying to watch too much at once.

Currently, I try to focus on last hits and my lane first(i.e. MIA's, last hits, harassing, baits, wards).
Second, I watch other lanes enemy champions (i.e. location, ults, summoner spells, wards)
Thirdly, I try to pay a little attention to my friendly champions (i.e. location, ults, possible incoming ganks, wards).

Not sure if it's just me, but I feel like sometimes I fail to initiate viable kills/last hits/ganks.
How and what do you guys pay attention to? Am I trying to focus on too much at once? Any tips on how to get better with my map awareness?

Secondly, wards, when do I purchase them? Where are the best places to place them (aside for the obvious)?

I'm also not sure which role to "specialize" in. I love the thought of jungling and just popping out onto someone with an awesome gank, but I never seem to be in the right spot to succeed. I mainly play mid, currently, cause I like being solo. I've never played top, I'm horrid at ADC and support isn't really appealing to me.

I just feel like I've hit a wall where my "skill" won't progress further without some feedback. I'm called garbage in like 50% of my games. Is that really the case or is that just the normal online community?

tl;dr? I think I suck, tell me what to do to improve.

Sorry for the wall of text.

map awarness:try to look at the minimap every 2-3 seconds or every time you lasthit a minion.(i don't do this myself because i am pro :P )

wards(this counts even more for supports): basically all the time unless you are full build or you just buy your starting items(top and support usually have wards as part of the starting items)

flamers: just ignore them. nuff said.

what role/champ to play: Ryze. here is an awesome videoguide, everything you need to know :P seriously, try to play all the free champions each week until you find someone you like.

good luck!

i'll answer your question brotha ^^

1-try to let your creeps do the damage and just finish of the creep (AKA last hitting) and so while you let your creeps do the work slide from looking at your lane and minimap every now and then.

2-don't put your cam to other lanes as much as possible, just look at your minimap if you need some info as where the enemies are and if they are going back or moving to the river etc.

3-same as second, if you can't help them why look at them ? just look at the minimap every now and then.

4-a) initiating, initiate when you have hard CC and tanky enough to get some trade damage before your team follows up.

b) recieving ganks, just let your enemy push the wave towards your tower, let your jungle (or you) initiate (see 4.a on who initiates) and try to secure the kill.

c) ganking, just let your teammate initiate or let them push the lanes toward allied towers and you initiate (see 4.a on who initiates)

5- tips on increasing map awareness is just frequently look at the minimap, it would also increase when you play and play the game.

6- buy wards when enemy have junglers or fast moving mids like ahri, fizz, akali and kat. wards are really important and very cost efficient

7- place wards on the place you think you would frequently pass as in most cases the enemy will frequently pass it too.

8- i specialize in top and support and i believe these are the best two roles ^^ try using renekton on top if you wanna try and taric on support. and honestly i suck at mid lane :D

well i hope this helped^^
+rep if i helped or if you just happen to like repping ^^

Thanks, that does help a little. I suppose I'm probably not looking at the minimap as much as I should and more the lanes, themselves. I'll definitely start doing that more.

If anyone feels like there's something they'd like to give a tip on feel free. I like hearing opinions from various points of view.

It sounds like you're on the right path already. Being willing to improve is a huge part of the process. You should buy 1-2 wards anytime you back and your wards are timed out or timing out. People have made a ton of guides for where to ward on this site, and most are easy to find. Mid and Top are two good lanes to main, but make sure you are competent (or at least not a feeder) at every role before you try ranked. Speaking of ranked, try to get roughly 150 wins before you try ranked, just as a way of guaranteeing your experience. Try some normal draft before going to ranked as well.

Best of luck!

Awesome, thanks. I was actually going to shoot for 300 normal wins before jumping into ranked and only play draft once I hit 30, which is soon. I'm definitely not a feeder, but there are some games where I could have played a little less aggressive and died less.

Thanks for the ward tip, too. I'll be sure to start buying and using them.

+Repped everyone that posted so far, thank you all for your time and tips. I appreciate that there are some people that actually want to help the community and not just flame everyone.

Much love,

Once you hit level 30, feel free to add me. I'd be happy to practice some in normals with you.
