It's actually a pretty common thing, for networks with a lot of sites. We want to start sharing functionality across the network, such as PMs, notifications, account management.
Just from my perspective I feel like the middle section of the bar, between the site links and the member menu links, might be too dark, causing the fact that it doesn't line up with the main site content to be much more distracting/noticeable.
Look at the screenshot again from OP and imagine that the entire bar is the same color (the lighter gray with the fade). Does that look better to you?

The website is like:
emptyemptyfullfullfullfullemptyempty
emptyemptyfullfullfullfullemptyempty
emptyemptyfullfullfullfullemptyempty
emptyemptyfullfullfullfullemptyempty
emptyemptyfullfullfullfullemptyempty
If you would change it to:
fullfullfullfullfullfullfullfullfullfullfullfull
emptyemptyfullfullfullfullemptyempty
emptyemptyfullfullfullfullemptyempty
emptyemptyfullfullfullfullemptyempty
emptyemptyfullfullfullfullemptyempty
It doesn't look so good :P
Besides, all the important stuff (account, settings, other mobafire applications) are on the sides, meaning they are completely detached from the "full" part of mobafire.
@Colours; The colour is not really the point, the main point is that it is so stretched out :P

I believe the top bar taking up the whole screen would look less weird/foreign if it was detached from the rest of the main body stuff and it didn't move the messages/profile to the top right. Users are probably used to it being in the top right of the content, but not the top right of their browser. :o

hi embracing. yes i play ff14 now.

why do you need the bar to stretch across the entire window to achieve this? can't you still do this with the bar the same size it is now? just curious
