What I mean by this is something similar to the system deviantART uses.
Let's take these two typical situations:
Situation 1: I have published a guide. As time goes on, It's hard to keep track of new comments. Sometimes people ask me questions about my build, yet I don't notice them. Right now, in order to make sure that I didn't get a new comment, I have to memorize the number of comments on the discussion section, and compare it to the actual number of comments everytime I open my profile.
Situation 2: I am participating in a thread, and decided to make a statement. The day after, I have been quoted by X on that statement, and he expressed his opinion on what I said. Unfortunately, I forgot that I have participated in that thread, therefore I never get knowledge of X's opinion.
What I suggest is a simple notification system that alerts you when you are quoted, when you have a new comment on your guide, when someone favourites your guide, and many more similar "alert-worthy" events.
Is this possible? It could be implemented near the Settings and Private Messages widgets on the top right of the page.

This has been brought up a lot and is something we have had in mind a while. We would like to have a notification system but are unsure if or when it can be made.
