these rivalry characters can't really move forward lore-wise without ending their rivalry through whatever means, and killing a champion for good won't ever happen because the champion would get removed.
I think lore can shift.
I mean, they could say like; Lucian finally hunted Thresh down, making him surrender. Cuz Thresh peed his pants, he gave back the soul of Lucians bidge, but afterwards ran away cuz Lucian hunted him.
Lucian is happy and he can move on. Thresh remains in the game.

well yeah lucian and thresh was just one example. i don't think theres a way around something like ww/soraka though.
another one i feel like mentioning is all the 'battle for freljord' stuff that happened, will never get solved because they'd end up killing off a few champions. one i feel in particular is olaf, because of his new lore he wants to die in battle so he keeps throwing himself at his enemies until one of them dies, because he doesnt want to die an old man. he wants to go out in a glorious battle, which will never happen because olaf would have to be removed.
(as a bit of a side note, isn't that weird then in lol when someone controlling olaf runs away from a fight? hehehe)

Olaf's lore is fine.
His character isn't just someone who wants to die. He is someone who is searching for an honorable death but is too powerful to be defeated. His story can go on for ages because it isn't as bland as a suicidal viking.
What he does have, is a drive and ambition. A reason to be apart of the league. While yes, I can see why you would question a lore alone those lines which, somewhat, 'restrict' his story but the future past the characters experience in the league is irrelevant.
Pondering upon if Olaf will die to an honorable death is pretty much as far fetched as Annie dying of old age.

Mundo goes where he pleases.
And pleases, where he goes.
you seem kind of narrowminded when it comes to story telling, "oh theyre rivals? the only way itll end is if one dies"
the point is the stories arnt supposed to just end theyre going to build off them, maybe there will be more about how freljord fights? maybe a new champion that wants nothing more than to kill olaf joins the league
they said themselves that they cant put as much lore as they want to in the small champion lore box and theyre working on ways to expand on that, you know like how the new site has relationships and such all over it
you look at things like "if its this then this is the only thing that can happen and there is no room for anything extra or unexpected the only way itll progress is if this one thing happens"

Dawngate has some pretty sexy lore. League could really do with champion judgements back to compete with that. I also dislike how it is no longer given just why a champion joins the league. Okay, it's usually pretty obvious and figuring out from the lore is good. Diana uses it as a political platform to spread the Lunari faith and work against the Solari should they have a representation (does Leona count? Their relationship is... complex, and Leona's not in it for the Solari priests so much as in it for the sun she champions). Jayce obviously uses it to protect Piltover and any others that might fall under the effects of Zaunite "ethics". Nami can use it as a platform for her quest, Syndra has a political platform to combat Ionia and somewhere she can freely use her powers without retribution.
It's okay for them, but a few are pretty nebulous. Zyra could be in it as a place she can, like Syndra, freely use all her powers of destruction without retribution, however it feels a little weak, surely there's something else?. There are also other wants which are harder to decipher if not given. The magi of the institute may offer the prospective champions something, for example Xerath wishes to use the magi to unleash him from his prison (ostensibly; his judgement may reveal other motives, it's a while since I read it). Speaking of judgements! Often the public reasons for champions wishing to join the league are not their true ones. Publicly, Lux is a Demacian paragon of the Crownguard family, of course she's going to represent them in the league. In truth, her upbringing leaves her with absolutely nothing but serving Demacia. She feels unable to reach out to any other possible future besides the league. I miss those judgements :(
I always liked Morgana and Kayle's rivalry. Morgana joins the institute of war just so she can kill her sister over and over again, although she initially joined to gain power from the magi.
